CCRKBA.org: Guns Save Lives Message Truck Banned from NY Times Square

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today announced that even though its rolling billboard bearing the message “Guns Save Lives” has been prohibited from driving through New York City’s Times Square, people will still get to see it, on the famed Times Square electronic billboard.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb announced that the message will be flashed on Wednesday, calling attention to the fact that firearms in the hands of law-abiding private citizens save lives. CCRKBA has sponsored a rolling billboard truck in several cities this spring, in reaction to a nationwide anti-gun campaign launched by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The CCRKBA campaign most recently was in Pittsburgh.

“We believe that the American public, and New Yorkers in particular, deserve to understand that on the average, guns save 2,191 lives and are used to thwart crimes every day,” Gottlieb said. “Michael Bloomberg would have people believe only that guns are bad, even while he enjoys the benefits of armed bodyguards wherever he goes. Average citizens do not have that billionaire lifestyle luxury.

“Instead,” he continued, “average citizens outside of anti-gun gulags like New York and Chicago have learned to take care of themselves. One way they do that is by exercising their right to keep and bear arms, a concept that Bloomberg has tried to impair since he took office.”

The “Guns Save Lives” message has also appeared in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Milwaukee, Washington, D.C. and Miami. At every stop, including one outside of the Los Angeles Times building, and outside of the Miami Herald building, the message has been well received. Local volunteers have helped stage events in several cities.

“Our message will not be silenced,” Gottlieb said, “and on Wednesday, with people from all over the map watching at Times Square, we will have an impact. Michael Bloomberg has been trying to spread hysteria about gun rights. We’re going to spread the truth.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

Firing Back: Details Emerge Regarding Times Square “Shooting” on Easter

The mainstream media was quick to call out the late day Easter shooting spree in Times Square, but new details have started to emerge. It seems that the gun in question was a “BB Gun,” and this was reported by local news station New York 1 as well as The New York Times.

We’re not saying this isn’t a big detail; in fact, we’re saying this is a huge deal. This time of year has seen a rise in gang activity – but in this politically correct environment no one wants to be the first to use the “G” word for fear of upsetting some minority or local “community.” If we could, we’d go to the rooftop and shout it, “gang, gang, gang!”

We say this at FirearmsTruth because we believe another “G” word is one the media loves to bring up anytime there is a problem. When first reported, the Times Square incident was regarded as another sad tragedy involving “GUNS.” But this isn’t about guns, this is clearly about “GANGS.” Mayor Michael Bloomberg at least had the courage to use the word “gangs” when talking about this scumbag thugs in the streets.

Yes, it is true that the police can’t be everywhere, but it is a sad state that many New Yorkers must live in fear on Easter Sunday after the sun goes down. Spring should be a time of rebirth and a time to get outside after a long winter, but now gangs are making it a time for their own rebirth and initiation. And yet, law-abiding New Yorkers in their own homes can’t arm themselves should this violence get worse. Let us hope that Bloomberg sees the real problem, and doesn’t take aim at gun owners instead.

Mayor Bloomberg: Too Many Guns Caused Times Square Shooting

It only takes one gun – that being a gun in a criminal’s hand – to be too many. But clearly that isn’t the point that New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg wanted to make with Time magazine. But did Bloomberg make this statement, or is this Time voicing what the mayor might say? The story does suggest that Bloomberg thinks there are too many guns:

“Mayor Michael Bloomberg was asked about the shooting while appearing at a Manhattan charity event, and he used the question to discuss one of his signature issues — illegal firearms and gun violence in New York and other big cities. ‘We’ve got to stop this,’ Bloomberg said. ‘This is one of the great public health threats. And our police officers are clearly in danger.’

Is this really a threat to public health? Frankly we think Bloomberg thinks any gun that belongs to anyone – law abiding or otherwise – is too many. But clearly he doesn’t think that two terms is enough, even if that was the law.

NYPD Shoots Man in Times Square

As we’ve long suggested, why don’t the police in New York and other big cities go after the real criminals and not worry so much about senseless gun laws that keep firearms out of the hands of law abiding citizens. The proof today, as reported by WABC News:

“According to officials, an undercover officer was dealing with illegal peddlers in Times Square. When the officer approached two peddlers, one of them took off running and a chase ensued. The sergeant pursued, and the man turned and fired with a Mac-10 machine pistol that held 30 rounds; he got off two shots before it jammed, Browne said, shattering the glass window at a Broadway baby store.”

To recap; an illegal peddler fired on the police with a very illegal Mac-10 machine pistol. This is NOT the sort of weapon that can just be obtained at Ohio or Virginia Gun Shows. So here again is proof that even with strict gun laws, criminals will obtain illegal weapons!
