Police Guns Stolen Again
The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that the police are essentially providing superior firearms to criminals. Well, OK not exactly, but for the third time since we launched this site in the spring, we’re following up on a story where police guns have been either stolen or accessed by the public. This is a disturbing trend. In this case, the AJC reports:
“The Clayton (County) police car was one of two law enforcement cars broken into in the early hours of Friday morning, and one of three cars broken into within a five-mile radius, according to police records.
“An MP5 sub-machine gun with a targeting sight, and a Bushmaster XM-15 machine gun with sight were taken from the Clayton police squad car.”
The article also spreads a bit of misinformation, as the writer refers to the firearms as “two assault rifles.” While the firearms in question maybe “assault weapons,” the MP5 is by no means an assault rifle. But the bigger issue is that these firearms would be left in the trunk of a parked car overnight. So why all those efforts to “get guns off the streets” if the police are just practically handing these weapons to criminals?
