Along with the guns, bulletproof vests, uniforms and jackets were stolen.
The Independent Mail of Anderson, South Carolina is reporting that four Anderson County Sheriff’s Office cars had been broken into, and items stolen included guns. All the cars were reportedly at the homes of deputies when the break ins occurred.
The paper notes:
“Along with the guns, bulletproof vests, uniforms and jackets were stolen.”
Clearly with four official cars being broken into, along with a fifth private car, this was a targeted event, which occurred between Tuesday and Thursday of last week. So the question is why did the officers continue to park cars at their homes (in the same neighborhood) for multiple nights? And why were guns left in the cars in the first place?
Who Guards the Guards: 78 Guns Missing From Kentucky Sheriff’s Office
Imagine what would happen if a law-abiding gun owner called the police and said, “I lost 78 guns.” Do you think this would make the news across the United States? Do you think the person would face felony charges? We think so, but yet when this happened to a sheriff’s office in Kentucky, it was barely a blip on the radar.
This followed an alleged burglary reports TheTimesTribune.com:
“The following list contains firearms that are unaccounted for following an examination of the evidence storage, written evidence logs, and documents pertaining to the release of property found at the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department following an alleged burglary which [sic] was reported on December 21, 2009.”
While the article suggests that not all the guns may have been stolen, it is still disturbing to think that criminals could have made off with all these firearms. It also should as a warning to anyone who believes that all illegal firearms begin from legal purchases!
Gun Owner Turns in 58 Guns!
According to The Los Angeles Times some “58 guns are off the street,” in Los Angeles County, where a single individual turned in the firearms in exchange for supermarket gift certificates.
Once again, we must question whether any of these were actually “on the streets,” or whether this individual just robbed a gun store over the holiday weekend. Either way this is a great piece of propaganda for the police. And if these were really were guns the owner had managed to obtain legally, he likely traded in tens of thousands of firearms for small change.
