WaPo Editorial Insulting to Sarah Palin and Sarah McKinley

Maybe The Washington Post has something against people named “Sarah,” but we know they certainly have something against guns. In the “She the People” column Suzi Parker takes aim at Palin for saying, “I’m all in favor of girls with guns who know their purpose.”

Palin was quoted in reference to Sarah McKinley, an 18-year-old widow – whose husband died on Christmas Day – who used a shotgun to kill Justin Shane Martin on New Year’s Eve as he tried to break into McKinley’s home. Among the inane statements Parker notes:

There’s something a bit frightening about teenaged girls running around packing heat.

She later adds:

I know more than a few teenagers of both genders, and they should never be near a gun. In Teen Land, everything is traumatic.

And finally she offers this closing passage:

Hopefully, McKinley won’t inspire thousands of young mothers, fathers, or any teenagers who want guns – to buy firearms for their homes without, as Palin said accurately, knowing their purpose.

She makes a good point, most teenagers are probably not as responsible as Ms. McKinley, but how many 18-year mothers find themselves a widow? She could have written: “hopefully, McKinely can inspire other young mothers and fathers to become responsible enough to know how to protect their families.”

Instead what is frightening is that this could have been a story of an 18-year of widow who was raped or killed just days after her husband died of cancer!

Sarah Palin: Fire Holder Now

Sarah Palin takes a lot of flak from the media. But this week, writing for Fox News, the former Alaska Governor showed she has real courage to speak her mind. She also showed decisiveness and direction. She has called on the firing of Attorney General Eric Holder.

She writes:

You might think Eric Holder’s Department of Justice was setting up a sting operation in which our federal agents would swoop down and arrest the bad guys the minute the guns traded hands. But that’s not what happened. Eric Holder’s DOJ had American gun dealers sell weapons to “straw purchasers” tied to drug cartels without actually following the movement of the guns as they were then sold to Mexican drug lords. They apparently thought this so-called “gun-walking” operation would help them chart the path of gun smuggling, but they didn’t have a plan to actually control the weapons’ movements as the guns were allowed to “walk” into Mexico. All Holder’s DOJ did was arm violent criminals. What manner of fools do we have working in this administration? What’s next? Supplying nuclear weapons components to the Iranians so we can track their activities?

With so many calls for Holder to be ousted we can’t even imagine why President Obama isn’t getting the message? Perhaps he is keeping Holder around just to spite everyone else! That’s about the only explanation that even comes close to making sense at this point.

Bill Maher Rages About Evil Gun Owners Once Again

On his season premiere of his HBO series Real Time With Bill Maher the comedian once again showed how bi-polar his thinking can be. Repeatedly he suggested that there is anger from the right, and that Sarah Palin and other Republicans caused last week’s shooting in Tucson through their words. Yet, Maher also continued to badmouth these very same people – to the point that his words almost seem to encourage the very same level of violence.

More interesting is the fact that Maher continues to belittle America, noting that there are too many guns. At one point he noted that we’re seeing “two Americas,” as states such as California, New York and Massachusetts have far fewer gun owners, while other states have far higher gun ownership.

What is interesting is that Maher never notes that California, New York and Massachusetts also have among the strictest laws for owning a gun – which could be part of the reason why more of these states’ citizens aren’t gun owners. He also fails to note that crime is actually higher in California and New York than some states with so-called “lax” gun laws.

The final irony was that guest, Democratic Strategist James Carville, spent the first half of the program noting that guns are a problem in this country, that the NRA has too much power and that something needs to be done – only to later note that he has a gun, “I have several” he said while snickering. Carville in this one statement proved two things.

First, that he is a true hypocrite. And second, despite what Bill Maher tried to present, which was that Republicans own guns and Democrats are anti-gun, it is clear that gun ownership isn’t drawn on party lines.

Arizona Shooting – Not Exactly a Neo Con

The mainstream media is trying to blame Sarah Palin and the right wing extremists for Jared Lee Loughner’s actions. That’s been the story, but according to our friends at Newsbusters, there are some other interesting tidbits that have been buried.

For one, Loughner believed the U.S. government was behind 9/11. And he had reportedly disliked Rep. Gabrielle Giffords for several years, long before most people outside of Alaska knew Sarah Palin’s name, so does this sound like he was a neo con who was moved by the words of Sarah Palin at all?

Firing Back: Politicians and Guns – Does the Liberal Media Get it?

Apparently the liberal media will always find a way to get upset about guns, even when there isn’t much of a story. The most recent example is how gossip site TMZ reported that Levi Johnston – father of Sarah Palin’s grandson – stopped in a gun shop while on the campaign trail. Not much of a story there, especially given that this stop took place in Alaska! That in turn was picked up by liberal rag the Huffington Post. Each offered snide comments on the issue – and TMZ even Photoshopped (badly) a rifle on a photo of Johnston. Our “friends” at the Huff and Puff have noted how guns (gasp!) have turned up at various political rallies, as if it somehow indicative of a plot to overthrow the government – instead of merely being an expression of the state’s understanding of the Second Amendment.

All this begs the question, does the liberal media not get it? Read more

Huff and Puff and Brady Brunch Lash Out at Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor”

The Huffington Post took aim at Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally, and offered some choice commentary from The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Beck’s event, which is being labeled as a nonpolitical rally, will feature speeches by Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent and is partially sponsored by the National Rifle Association. That was enough to get the anti-gun crowd all huffed and puffed. The Brady Center offered a reaction, which included this harsh statement:

“Most jarring is the sad irony of all of these people at the podium, with their supporters spread across our National Mall, celebrating, in part, their worship of guns.”

This isn’t about a “worship of guns,” but rather a respect for the Constitution of the United States. This is just further proof that the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence should really re-brand itself as the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Ownership.

Ben Smith Posts Video of Joe Miller Supporters

What’s the news in a video posted by Politico’s Ben Smith? The political pundit offers a video with this caption:

“A supporter of Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski sends over this video of her challenger, Palin-backed Joe Miller, greeting supporters at the Bear Paw Festival in Eagle River. Behind him march at least three men visibly carrying handguns and and heavier weapons.”

The caption implies that you’ll see supporters marching with .50 caliber machine guns or something, but they’re simply carrying commercial AR-15s. What’s the big deal? Well, no doubt it is just meant to shock Politico readers with the suggestion that Joe Miller is part of some infamous “militia” group or something.

See the video at Ben Smith’s blog – or better yet, don’t give it more traffic.

Firing Back: AP Story Targets Palin After NRA Speech

In a “news” story on Sarah Palin’s speech at the NRA convention, AP wasted no time making a few choice jabs at her, and at her comments about guns. In fact, the article tries to counter what Palin said. Here is a quote from Palin, along with some typical AP bias thrown in:

“Don’t doubt for a minute that, if they thought they could get away with it, they would ban guns and ban ammunition and gut the Second Amendment,” said Palin, a lifelong NRA member who once had a baby shower at a local gun range in Alaska. “It’s the job of all of us at the NRA and its allies to stop them in their tracks.”

Now compare this to the follow-up paragraph from the voice of AP:

“Gun enthusiasts have trumpeted fears that their rights would erode under a Democrat-led White House and Congress, but President Barack Obama has largely been silent on issues such as reviving an assault weapons ban or strengthening background checks at gun shows. Obama also signed a law allowing people to carry loaded guns in national parks.”

First, we ask why it matters that Palin had a baby shower at a gun range, but did AP put that in to make her seem “crazy” to those who don’t like guns? You read the words “baby” and “gun range” together and that makes no sense right? Second, why does the AP feel it necessary to suggest that Obama has been silent on the issue – especially as Palin says, “if they thought they could get away with it,” but apparently the author missed that point. Finally, is the word, “fears” really necessary? “Fears” suggests a paranoid gun community, but that’s likely what the anti-gun crowd wants everyone to believe about gun enthusiasts.
