Rapper B.G. “No Snitch”

Convicted felon rapper B.G. – that would be Christopher Dorsey on court documents – plead guilty to possession of an illegal firearms. And what was the spin from his lawyer? NOLA.com reports:

…outside of court, (J.C.) Lawrence, who calls B.G. “Mr. Dorsey,” explained that his client makes use of artistic license. He said Dorsey has a certain appearance and style he must maintain as a rapper. Videos are marketing, he said, and marketing means financial gains.

Just because someone has a gun in a video doesn’t mean it’s real, he said. And just because someone talks about drugs, death and murder doesn’t mean they deal in that business, he said.

Is this going to be a new defense when it comes to the rich and famous, especially in the rap and hip hop community? They have to maintain an appearance. For the next couple of decades B.G. will have to maintain the appearance of someone serving time we think.

Once again this isn’t about the culture of guns, this is about the culture of violence and the image of being a “gansta” that is the problem. These people – these hip hop artists – are not supporters of the Second Amendment, and they are the ones that make firearms look bad and should be punished accordingly when they break the law.

Another Rapper Goes to Jail

The anti-gun crowd works tirelessly to take guns away from law abiding citizens, but yet leniency is often given to those who are rich and famous. The latest example is Ja Rule who is FINALLY heading to jail for possession of an unregistered but loaded .40 caliber in the rear door of his $250,000+ Mayback sports car.

While Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said the rapper’s sentence “should put all illegal gun owners in New York on notice,” we still feel that given the fact the Ja Rule was only sentenced to two years is a slap on the wrist given how difficult it is to obtain a pistol permit in New York City.

For the record Ja Rule also faces Federal Prison sentencing for failing to pay taxes on more than $3 million in income.

Another Hip Hop Artist Faces Gun Charges

Part of the problem with the issue of gun rights in this country is that a few really, really – and we do mean – really bad apples spoil it for the bunch. This is especially true when it comes to athletes and hip hop artists. This week MTV News is reporting, “B.G. Indicted On Federal Gun and Obstruction Charges.” But that’s not, to hear this one, is enough to make every law-abiding gun owner cringe with anger:

“B.G., 30 was arrested in November 2009 for weapons possession, while driving in New Orleans. Police said two of the three guns that the rapper was caught with had been reported stolen.

“Prosecutors allege that the rapper tried to get an associate to claim ownership of the guns and because of that he now faces obstruction charges as well.”

What is also amazing is the response in other media outlets. The hip hop website Kicks and Chicks offered this thought:

“The potential prison sentence comes at a bad time for B.G. The rapper recently reconciled his differences with Birdman and Cash Records in 2010 after their financial dispute nine years before.”

The prison sentence comes at a bad time? Maybe B.G. should have thought about that before driving around with stolen guns trying to play the part of a street thug.

No doubt this case will result in all sorts of commentary from the hip hop community on how B.G. shouldn’t serve a long jail time because he is an artist, a role model to the community and basically “made a mistake.” The problem is that he’s a rich man who can hire an army of lawyers.

We say, throw the book at him. Maybe a sentence of 10 years sounds about right. That will give him time to get his story straight.

Lil Wayne Faces Little Time

Once again we’re scratching our heads, asking how it can be that many law abiding citizens are denied their constitutional right, and a convicted criminal is facing a second strike that will mean just three years probation! Currently “rapper” Lil Wyane is serving time in New York City’s Rikers Island on a gun charge, and has now pleaded guilty to a similar charge – via a live video feed – in Yuma County Arizona. Entertainment Weekly reports:

“On January 22, 2008 authorities stopped Wayne’s tour bus at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint almost 80 miles east of Yuma. They found cocaine, marijuana, Ecstasy, drug paraphernalia and a .40-caliber handgun registered to Wayne. He was charged with felony possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia. At the time Wayne pleaded not guilty to all the felony charges.”

The entertainment magazine goes on to call Wayne an “acclaimed rapper” noting that he faces of the three years of probation AFTER he serves his time? How is this possible we ask, because he was charged with numerous felony possessions of drugs? Worse still why is the media noting he is an “acclaimed” anything, artist or otherwise, instead of noting that he is a CONVICTED criminal?

Rapper TI Gets Holiday Release

While law abiding citizens continue to have their gun rights challenged, celebrities get a free pass. The New York Times has reported rapper TI has been released:

“In March, T.I., whose given name is Clifford Harris, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison after he pleaded guilty to illegal weapons possession.”

Something seems so wrong about his sentence, especailly as many citizens of cities such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Washington can’t even own a gun!

Rapper B.G. is Hopeful in Gun Case? Seriously?

What is with MTV? Can’t the liberal-minded “music” network see the writing on the wall, or at least its own Web site? While reporting about rapper, in an article titled ”B.G. Is Optimistic About Gun-Possession Case,” the news channel starts out by saying:

“This week, B.G. saw his friend Lil Boosie sent to jail after violating probation on a gun charge. His former Hot Boys bandmate Lil Wayne is expected to be sentenced to a year in prison for gun possession too. And last week, B.G. himself was charged with illegal gun possession in New Orleans.”

While the mainstream media goes on and on about the “culture” of guns, the real danger is the culture of violence and the embracement of a gangster (or is that gangsta) lifestyle by men like B.G. Worse, when caught red-handed, B.G. is downright smug. To MTV he says:

“My lawyers told me, don’t worry about nothing, they got it. They gonna take care of it. The police report was written up real, real bad, so I feel good about it.”

Well B.G, we at FirearmsTruth do hope you get it, as in the jail time you deserve. You and your celebrity thug friends are bad news for those of us who are law abiding. We just can’t afford the lawyers who will tell, “don’t worry about nothing.”

Why Did Rapper B.G. Even Have a Gun?

There are two questions that should be asked by anyone in the mainstream media? First, why did rapper B.G. even have a firearm? He has been arrested for the fourth time this year, so he most certainly shouldn’t be carrying any sort of firearm? But the second question is the bigger one, namely why isn’t he already in jail?

HipHopRX might not be considered the mainstream press, but it is one of the few outlets actually highlighting that this is just the latest example of a celebrity who skirts the law. Let’s hope this celebrity does the time, and that the mainstream media picks up on this story.
