Buckeye Firearms Foundation: Top Threats To Gun Rights In 2012 & It May Be You

From the Buckeye Firearms Foundation:

Every January, Buckeye Firearms Association identifies the top 10 threats to our gun rights for the upcoming twelve months.

Historically, the list includes an ever changing line up of anti-gun personalities including the likes of Sarah Brady, Toby Hoover and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

One of the people included on the list more times than any other, however, is the apathetic and uninformed gun owner.

Few individual threats pose more danger to the right to bear arms than the self-proclaimed gun-rights advocate who doesn’t support the latest pro-gun reform, or who refuses to take their business elsewhere when a company discriminates against gun owners. Read more

Buckeye Firearms Foundation: Bloomberg’s Push For New Gun Control Won’t Stop Illegal Gun Sales

Buckeye Firearms Foundation:

Last week, anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Joyce Foundation-funded gun control group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), staged a press conference to hype the group’s latest effort to institute a new level of gun control on law-abiding citizens. But while he supports the gun control efforts, even the City of Cleveland’s Public Safety Director admits the proposed legislation wouldn’t stop illegal sales. Read more

iWatchNews.org: Carrying concealed weapons just keeps getting easier

Do criminals bother with the law? That’s the question to ask iWatchNews.org, which ran a story titled “Carrying concealed weapons just keeps getting easier,” and it includes this passage:

In Ohio, it is now OK to possess a hidden, loaded handgun in cars and bars, public parks and parking lots. Gun owners have broad discretion in using deadly force against burglars and car thieves.

Don’t they miss the point that carrying concealed weapons has always been easy? All you have to do is just bring the gun and conceal it in your clothing. Doing so of course in most cases involves breaking the law.

Most law-abiding gun owners wouldn’t do such a thing. That is the point. But what is to stop criminals from doing so? Clearly the “law” is not an issue if you are a criminal!

But this lengthy anti-gun piece noted:

In just the past three years, 22 states have weakened or eliminated laws regulating the possession of concealed weapons, according to the Legal Community Against Violence, a public-interest law firm in San Francisco that supports more restrictive gun laws.

So as we see it, this story cites date from an anti-gun group and states it as fact, but to push the bias used the phrase “weakened or eliminated laws.” Couldn’t the passage have been “strengthened pro-carry laws,” but that would be pro-gun bias. Something we rarely see in the media.

In other words, this is just a stacked article that tries to make its point by using loose “facts” that fit with the author’s opinion. That’s actually fine, but this isn’t really news as much as it as editorial.

Ohioans For Concealed Carry: Cleveland Heights, Ohio Repeals illegal Gun laws When Faced with Losing Lawsuit

Ohioans For Concealed Carry:

Wednesday night the City of Cleveland Heights repealed their illegal laws. Earlier, they took down the illegal gun signs posted at their parks. They did this after:

  1. Being advised by Ohioans for Concealed Carry in writing dating back to 2008
  2. A member of their council acknowledged the problem and committed to fix it (in 2008) with the law director – but nothing ever came of those promises.
  3. Representatives of Ohioans For Concealed Carry called them and were basically ignored and hung up on.
  4. Co-plaintiff and resident Phillip Mulivor repeatedly approached a member of council to address the issue and was told it would be resolved – but no legislation was ever introduced.
  5. Random members of the OFCC Discussion Forums were ignored, repeatedly, when they wrote emails to the City of
  6. Cleveland Heights about the issue – the city clearly had no intention of complying with the law until:
  7. Ohioans For Concealed Carry finally filed a lawsuit against the City of Cleveland Heights
  8. The Law Director now claims we sued due to zeal – he was too busy to repeal illegal laws and take down illegal signs, and we apparently should have been more aggressive when he hung up on us. Read more

Firearms Sales on the Rise, Where is the Media Reporting Now?

When President Obama was elected in 2008 there was a surge in gun sales – and the media was all over it. Of course one reason for the surge in sales was due to a bad economy. When times are bad, people buy guns. Much of this aspect of the story back in 2008 and 2009 was widely overlooked.

Now The Dayton Daily News is reporting that gun sales in Ohio are on the rise, and outside of the state the media is hardly picking up on it. Of course the increased sales could be from the fact that the economy – especially in Ohio – is far from good. The other aspect is that gun sales have been on the rise for years, a fact the mainstream media also ignored when reporting the upsurge in sales in 2009.

The Dayton Daily News notes:

“During the first seven months of this year, the FBI conducted 247,847 background checks for firearm purchases at gun sellers in the state, up 17.7 percent from the same period in 2010, 9.2 percent from 2009 and 42.4 percent from 2008, according to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.”

The paper also cites a bad economy as a factor. Let’s see if the MSM even bothers to note these figures or reports on the story. Something tells us they’ll think this is finally old news.

Ohioans For Concealed Carry: Canton Ohio Police Shocking Overreaction to Ohio Concealed Carry Holder

Ohioans For Concealed Carry:

We’ve all wondered what our first armed traffic stop is going to turn into. For me I was driving a 1996 Ford explorer with 4″ tall white letters that read: OHIOCCW.ORG across the back of my hatch.

The officer stepped out of his vehicle and approached my car in a rather large arc so that when he could see into my doorway he was easily twenty feet away from my car.

We were each other’s first armed traffic stop and as I realized what was taking place I chuckled and said “So, Obviously you know, Right?”

That didn’t happen to a man in Canton, Ohio who had his license for just 30 days on June 8th of this summer. What happened is a problem we’ve heard all too often.

Police are trained to own control over a situation, to refuse to get into a discussion with you that would distract their awareness, and to command you into compliance. Often, this leads into unintended consequences where a concealed handgun licensee trying to “promptly inform” the officer that they’re armed is shouted down, ordered to shut up, or told to look away from the officer’s direction.

The seventeen minutes of dash camera footage we are now able to show you will likely horrify you.

In this case the driver remains in his vehicle while the officer, in what appears to be an illegal search at first glance, enters the rear of the vehicle. The licensee tries to turn his head and notify and is promptly told to turn away and shut up.

Later, when the second officer approaches his door he can be heard on camera saying “I have a conceal..” at which point the officer barks at him that he “Better tell the truth”, which thwarts the driver’s attempts to notify and confuses him into saying why he is truthfully where he is at that hour.

As he exits the vehicle and the officers realize he is armed their reaction is absolutely horrific.

The treatment of the driver while he is detained, handcuffed, and placed in the back of the cruiser is truly hard to watch. After you watch this video, please go to http://OhioCCW.org/CantonPD and consider a donation to the legal defense fund.

We need your help to fix this injustice, and we need your help to use these events to repeal the law in Ohio that puts you into a shouting match with an officer who doesn’t want to hear you speak.

If you use Facebook, Twitter, or other social media please consider helping us spread this video to everyone you know.

Buckeye Firearms Foundation: Court Orders Cleveland to Stop Enforcing Local Gun Control

From the Buckeye Firearms Foundation:

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Brian Corrigan has ordered Cleveland to stop any enforcement of 19 separate local gun control ordinances, effective immediately.

Buckeye Firearms Foundation is the lead Plaintiff in the case, which was filed in early 2009. In the interim, Cleveland sued the State of Ohio in an attempt to have the state’s firearm laws declared an unconstitutional usurpation of a city’s home rule authority. In December 2010, the Ohio Supreme Court entered final judgment against Cleveland, ruling (for a second time) that the state’s laws were valid. Read more
