NRA ILA: Gun Control Measures Disappearing in New York

From the NRA ILA:

New York gun owners finally have something to celebrate — a rare double victory in the Empire State.

The New York state budget was signed today by Governor Andrew Cuomo, and it eliminated CoBIS, the costly state ballistic identification database that wasted millions of taxpayer dollars while failing to solve a single crime!

The final budget bill also struck a microstamping provision that had been included in an earlier Assembly version of the state budget.

After the state Assembly passed microstamping earlier this session, the Senate Codes Committee moved S675C, by state Senator Jose Peralta (D-13), to the Senate Rules Committee, making it unlikely a hearing would be held on it this session.  Undaunted, anti-gun Assemblymen inserted a budget provision that included microstamping in the Assembly budget, but thankfully this backdoor attempt failed.

Microstamping, like CoBIS, would be costly and ineffective.  In addition, this unproven technology is easily circumvented by criminals.  Enacting microstamping would also hurt local New York economies, as large manufacturing employers would be forced out of the state. Today, New York gun owners can be pleased that one gun control provision has been repealed and another has stalled for now.

NRA – ILA: On the Second Amendment, Obama Budget Tells All

NRA – ILA:

Barack Obama’s careful effort to hide his anti-Second Amendment agenda is starting to come undone.

The latest evidence is found in the budget he sent to Congress this past week.

As we reported last fall, NRA was very successful in having a number of provisions included in the annual spending bills that are important protections for our rights. Obama grudgingly signed the Fiscal Year 2012 spending bills that contained those “riders,” although in his signing statement, he announced his intent to defy some. Now, in Obama’s FY 2013 budget, he proposes eliminating many of them outright. Read more

Oregons Firearm Ownership Privacy Bill to be Heard Monday by House Committee

NRA – ILA:

House Bill 4054 is scheduled to be heard in the state House Health Care Committee on Monday, February 13.

This hearing will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Hearing Room E of the Oregon Capitol.  Sponsored by state Representative Jim Thompson (R-23), HB 4054 would prohibit the Public Employees’ Benefit Board from authorizing or requiring the collection of information or maintenance of records about firearms from eligible employees or family members applying for health benefits.

HB 4054 was introduced after state Senate Republican Leader Ted Ferrioli (R-30) secured commitments from both Kaiser Permanente and the Public Employee’s Benefit Board to purge gun ownership data that had been collected after implementing a new employee initiative called the “Health Engagement Model.”  After Senator Ferrioli’s inquiries, both plans dropped the questions related to firearms.
