New Haven Police Seizing Illegal Guns
This week News8 (WTNH) is reporting that New Haven police are stepping up efforts to seize illegal guns.
This is just the latest round in an ongoing effort, and we have to ask – what is the big deal. Most law-abiding gun owners would be in favor of this move. We ask why isn’t this standard procedure? Shouldn’t illegal guns be the target of law enforcement, while law-abiding citizens can keep their guns?
The Citizen Register Offers Biased, One-Sided Story on “Gun Violence”
In a one sided piece titled “Activists blame NRA for rising gun violence in New Haven,” The Citizen Register pretty much sided with those activists. The story lacked any counterpoint. Instead it offered statements such as this:
“There are more than 30,000 gun deaths each year in the United States, and while some states have passed various laws to prevent more violence, it’s tougher to pass federal laws because of the NRA, according to Pinciaro.”
While the statement might be from Ron Pinciaro, executive director for Connecticut Against Gun Violence, it seemed that it was also the paper’s sentiment as there was no opposing view, or even questioning of the facts. This article was essentially a press release for the group.
Police Officer Supplied Guns to Criminals
The New Haven Independent is reporting that Sgt. David Setzer, a Waterbury, Conn., police officer has turned himself in to New Haven police. According to reports the officer had stockpiled explosives and even provided guns to criminals on New Haven streets.
We’ve asked the question before, but who guards the guards? This is an issue that the mainstream media is starting to report on, but it is a worrisome issue for anyone – not just those opposed to guns. If a police officer puts “guns on the streets,” then how is anyone going to be safe? This was no case of straw purchases, gun show loopholes or even stolen firearms. This was a case of one who was suppose to protect and serve actually serving the criminals and doing the opposite to protect anyone.
