We don’t disagree with Mike Lupica of The New York Daily News that something has to be done to stop illegal guns from ending up in the hands of criminals. But in his column, Lupica suggests that Mayor Michael Bloomberg is on track, but the facts aren’t quite as clear as they seem. The Daily News noted:

Bloomberg has taken his fight to online gun sales, put a big, bright light on the fact of thousands of guns being sold online without proper background checks, without buyers being asked to produce identification, some of these buyers finding out it’s even easier to get a gun than they thought.

These are not exactly legal sales to start with, and while Bloomberg is calling on background checks for every gun purchase we have to stress that many of those thousands of online sales would happen anyway. This is because the sellers are already breaking the law in many cases, and if they aren’t breaking the law entirely they are breaking rules for posting guns on sites such as Craigslist.

This is a crime issue, not a gun issue. And while tougher laws will only hurt law abiding citizens, we doubt they’d affect the criminals much or if at all.

Grass Roots North Carolina for Firearms Education:

Now Greenville Mayor Pat Dunn leads a swan song cynical over-reach to circumvent HB 650. Apparently she refuses leave without also leaving her anti-freedom mark!

In violation of both the letter, and more importantly, spirit of the new state law that uniformly permits concealed carry within all North Carolina parks, the Greenville City Council, under out-going Mayor Pat Dunn, recently passed draconian legislation that mandates posting against carry in 25 broad areas and numerous sub-regions of Greenville parks - including a clear over-reaching ban in the city’s dog park!

Dunn’s membership in New York City Mayor Bloomberg’s strident anti-gun MAIG organization was bad enough.

Now, adding insult to injury, she seeks to make a final parting assault on lawful carry within Greenville’s recreational facilities.

All this effort to disarm the law-abiding when violent crime in Greenville parks is a clear and present danger.

Just last week Leroy Staton was brutally murdered in Jaycee Park. A park that will now be posted in seven areas.

Every Greenville area that can be spun as a playground, an athletic field, a swimming pool, or athletic facility (and others that cannot) will be posted against lawful concealed carry.

This type of exhaustive “kitchen sink” approach to bans is exactly what HB 650 was intended to prevent.

This indiscriminate ban is clearly a cynical attempt to flout both state law, and Second Amendment rights.

Such unreasonable and arrogant attempts to deprive free North Carolinians of their rights cannot and will not be tolerated!

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED:

Contact Mayor Pat Dunn, Mayor-Elect Allen Thomas, and the City Councilors of Greenville, NC.

Tell them that Greenville, NC refuses to become a defenseless small-town image of NYC, Washington DC and Chicago.

All of which are represented by MAIG members,

All of which disarm the law-abiding to the benefit of violent criminals.

Tell them to rescind their illegal ordinance!

Deliver the message below:

Deliver This Message

Greenville City Representatives,

It has come to my attention that you intend to ban guns within extensive areas under city control in response to recent ratification of HB 650, “Castle Doctrine and Concealed Carry Permitted in Parks”.

You should be aware that, although this new law does permit posting against concealed carry in certain clearly and very narrowly-defined areas, your recently-passed anti-gun ordinance is overly-broad and violates both the letter, and more importantly the spirit of this new, freedom-promoting state law.

In particular, banning of carry within the city’s off-leash dog park, that cannot be reasonably considered a “playground” is clearly in violation of state law. This also makes it clear that the ordinance was prepared to indiscriminately ban otherwise lawful carry within every region of Greenville that can be construed, however torturously, to be permissible under HB 650.

HB 650 was intended to create statewide uniformity in the regulation of legal carry. Your ordinance is a clear and cynical attempt to thwart this effort, and therefore must be rescinded immediately.

North Carolinian Concealed Handgun permitees have shown themselves to be extremely responsible and are not a problem that you should be concerned about. Places within Greenville where citizens are not permitted to effectively defend themselves IS a problem that you NEED TO BEGIN working to solve.

A clear example of the need for law-abiding Greenville citizens to be permitted effective means of self-defense is the this week’s brutal murder of Leroy Staton in Jaycee Park, a small facility within which you intend to post seven separate areas.

I insist that you abandon plans to disarm responsible permit holders, and immediately rescind your illegal ordinance.

I will be following progress through Grass Roots North Carolina.

Sincerely,

A concerned NC voter

GRNC is preparing to take appropriate legal action and needs to identify local plaintiffs

Plaintiffs are currently needed for actions within Kernersville, Greenville and Smithfield. Please contact alerts@grnc.org.

Other municipalities may be added.

Everyone should carefully monitor municipal ordinances, particularly those recently enacted.

Any restrictions beyond “a playground, an athletic field, a swimming pool, or an athletic facility” should be immediately reported to alerts@grnc.org.

This week The New York Daily News essentially acted as a puppet for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and suggested that Virginia’s gun laws are a problem. In a story titled, “Bloomberg’s anti-gun candidates win in VA. But control measures could be repealed,” the paper reported:

All six anti-gun Virginia State Senate candidates backed by Mayor Bloomberg won — but it still may soon be easier for firearms to travel from Old Dominion to the city’s streets.

The story added:

Virginia already exports more guns than any other state to New York City — and that flood of firearms may become a tsunami, one of Bloomberg’s top advisers said.

Where is the source on this beyond Bloomberg’s own advisors? And why isn’t it noted that New York City has extremely strict gun laws. Even if Virginia dries up as a source – which we frankly don’t believe it to be – won’t criminals turn elsewhere?

And while thousands of people protest the power of the so-called one percent where is the outrage that a lone billionaire in New York City can help determine elections in another state? Should the whole country adopt New York City’s strict gun control policies just because it is what Bloomberg, a billionaire, wants and demands? How is this fair to the 99 percent we ask?

He writes:

“A new state law will allow Wisconsin residents to carry hidden, loaded guns throughout our state. I might not have agreed with the state’s decision, but fair enough: at least it was our state’s decision. But now, some in Congress want to take things a big step further – and if they succeed, we won’t have any say in the matter.”

Even if this were the case, which it really isn’t, why can’t these anti-gun politicians types see that criminals can already carry guns anywhere they want – they just have to break the law to do it!

Former Obama advisor Rahm Emanuel, who is now Mayor of Chicago, is the latest to join New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition. Numerous outlets quote Emanuel’s usual nonsense:

“The fact is we are up against a well-paid Washington gun lobby, largely financed by the firearms industry that is more aggressive and irrational than ever. Mayors Against Illegal Guns takes a bipartisan approach that reflects what Americans actually believe about gun issues: we can respect the rights of gun owners while doing much more to keep illegal guns off the streets and away from criminals.”

Typical rhetoric from a would-be gun grabber. Chicago’s streets were filled with illegal guns before McDonald vs. Chicago, proving that laws don’t deter criminals. And of course this mayor blames the gun lobby and the gun industry for the gun crime instead.

We also see absolutely no “respect” from Mayors Against Illegal Guns. They just want to take our guns and say they respect us.

The New York Daily News offered an interesting view on gun shows in a story titled, “Mayor Bloomberg’s undercover stings get results – and gripes in Tucson.” But what “results” did he or his group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, really get? One problem with the way this story is being covered is that gun sales between private parties isn’t illegal at guns shows.

Yet the article offers this insight:

“More than three dozen gun shows have cleaned up their act after Mayor Bloomberg staged undercover sting operations exposing illegal sales.”

What sales were “illegal?” The paper sheds some light:

“Private detectives hired by the city in 2009 were able to buy guns at seven shows despite telling the sellers they probably couldn’t pass a background check.”

Wait, “probably couldn’t pass a background check” isn’t the same as “illegal.” Probably isn’t a legal term. As we’ve previously noted you are either guilty or not guilty in a court of law. Where does “probably” come in, except to cover all bases, and in our opinion much more.
