Mayor Bloomberg Responds to Al Qaeda Call
Apparently Mayor Mike Bloomberg of New York City agrees with terrorists. That’s our reaction to his statement, released in response from calls from Al Qaeda to buy guns and commit acts of terror. Bloomberg said:
“The terror statement released today is absolutely accurate in one respect: terrorists and other criminals can easily buy guns in the United States with no background check, and no questions asked. This video may help Washington understand that weak gun laws aren’t just a crime problem, they’re a national security threat.”
So Bloomberg agrees with terrorists. That’s the take away.
New York’s Anti-gun Stunt Cost Taxpayers 100K
Last month New York City’s Bloomberg administration ran an anti-gun stunt that ended up costing taxpayers $100,000. Using money from the police budget, a Phoenix gun show was investigated by private investigators armed with hidden cameras. Local authorities weren’t told about the stunt and were upset that the New York mayor was running a so called sting in Phoenix.
Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne said, “The fact that no such notification was made indicates this so-called sting is nothing less than a public relations stunt.”
At a time when many city budgets are strained by the economic downturn, taxpayer’s should demand more from authorities. The $100,000 could have been better spent running a sting on things like investigating corruption of local authorities.
NYC to “Simplify” Gun Registration
As a long time resident of New York City, I personally can tell you that the gun registration process in the Big Apple was anything but simple. However, The New York Times is reporting that this could change:
“The Bloomberg administration announced on Friday that it was moving to simplify the process for New Yorkers to obtain gun permits, thus speeding up a set of byzantine licensing requirements that gun-rights advocates have long criticized as among the most restrictive in the country.”
We’ll be watching eagerly to see if this really makes it easier for law-abiding citizens to get permits, or whether the process will in fact make it simpler for the police to deny individuals.
Bloomberg’s Group Exploits Columbine Massacre and Lies
New York mayor Bloomberg’s group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has begun to shamelessly run ads exploiting the Columbine massacre. Video from surveillance cameras at the site of the crime is used to convince viewers to call their senators to close the so called gun show loophole. Exploiting the massacre for political purposes is disgusting enough. On top of Bloomberg’s pornographic exploitation of people’s emotions, the ad’s basic premise is a lie. Read more
Bloomberg Responds to Times Square Shooting
While we often criticize the police we offer a BIG thank you to New York Police Department for stopping a very violent man, Raymond Martinez of the Bronx, this week in Times Square. This could have been a very ugly situation and the NYPD responded rightfully and quickly, saving the day and likely saving lives.
Of course we must respond to Mayor Mike Bloomberg for his (expected) response, which was covered by The Associated Press:
“Mayor Michael Bloomberg was asked about the shooting while appearing at a Manhattan charity event, and he used the question to discuss one of his signature issues — illegal firearms and gun violence in New York and other big cities. ‘We’ve got to stop this,’ Bloomberg said. ‘This is one of the great public health threats. And our police officers are clearly in danger.’”
Stopping illegal guns is one thing, and we encourage the mayor to do so. But let’s not lose sight of the fact that New York has an essential prohibition of firearms, and that law-abiding citizens are the ones who are clearly being disarmed, not the thugs like Raymond Martinez.
WABC News Misleads in Tease for “Community Guns”
The tease this past Tuesday from WABC Channel Eye Witness News suggested that “anyone” including “teens” could get their hands on so-called “community guns” in part of New York City. Further it was said that guns were “borrowed” or even being “rented out,” suggesting that maybe a gun shop or other organization was actually offering firearms for rental.
Not so fast. The story actually clears this up, telling that it was gang members in The Bronx who were doing the loaning and offering the guns for rental. In many cases these criminals were leaving the guns in places where they could be easily recovered. The story noted:
“In March, a round-up of forty-one suspected gang members turned up five guns hidden in a stash house in Washington Heights.” Read more
Huff Post Writer Sees Irony but Misses Real Irony
Is this guy for real? Author Dennis A. Henigan, who is also Vice President for the Brady Center, and an established anti-gun author/zealot claims in a piece for The Huffington Post that some states on the verge of secession for their gun laws, yet never sees the irony of other anti-gun zealots over reaching beyond what might be considered reasonable.
Case in point, Henigan calls out two states:
“I refer to the extraordinary legislation passed into law by the states of Montana and Tennessee declaring that guns or ammunition manufactured and retained entirely within the borders of those states are “not subject to federal law.” Apparently, similar legislation has been introduced in Texas, Alaska, Minnesota, South Carolina, Florida, Arizona and Colorado.”
So I ask Henigan whether he sees any problems with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg trying to change the laws in Virginia and Ohio? Well, Denny, what’s the difference?
