Brady Bunch Goes After South Dakota

We reported recently that the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence noted that Nebraska had “weak” gun laws, and now the Bunch has targeted other states as well reports KTIV News Channel 4:

“The Washington, D.C.-based, nonpartisan Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence says only seven states have less stringent gun laws than South Dakota.

“The report rates California and New Jersey laws best. The seven states listed as worse than South Dakota are Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Utah.”

This was Associated Press copy above, and it shows in the bias. How can anyone claim that the group is “nonpartisan?” But as we previously noted, how can California and New Jersey have the “best” laws and such high crime, while the other states listed have lower gun violence, yet have what the Brady Bunch notes as “weak” gun laws?

Brady Bunch Calls Out Nebraska

The Sioux City Journal ran an AP story this past Friday that noted that Nebraska gun laws are “weak” according to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The group claims that two other states have the “best” laws:

“The report rates California and New Jersey laws best.”

We ask what makes the gun laws of California and New Jersey best? Does this imply that these are the safest locations in the country?

Then riddle us Brady “Bunch,” why is it that California and New Jersey have gang and crime problems? Shouldn’t these be lands where you are safe to walk the streets of the inner cities? We challenge anyone from the Brady Center to take a 1am stroll through Newark, NJ with us. We’re up to the challenge… are you?

WaPo Predicts Wild West in Virginia

How would more gun-sales increase crime? That’s the question we put to The Washington Post, which in an editorial noted this week that “If Virginia lifts gun-buying limit, get ready for mayhem.

This is true anti-gun bias front and center! Why should law-abiding gun owners suffer, especially when no criminal is going to honor the law?

One Sided Local News Story in Daily News Passed Off as News

Where does news end and editorial begin, especially when the piece is about local news? The New York Daily News certainly blurred the lines in a story about a young anti-firearm zealot from Brooklyn. The story pulls no punches, and comes out swinging with this intro:

”At 18, Kristine Arroyo already knows how to stand up to the powerful National Rifle Association – and tomorrow night, she’ll stand up and be honored at Borough President Marty Markowitz’s State of the Borough address.” Read more

Update on Illinois Gang Gun Law

The Chicago Tribune has filed another piece on the Illinois gang gun law and frankly we’re both pleased and confused that his law didn’t exist previously. The paper reports:

“Gang members caught with loaded guns would face mandatory prison time under a new law signed Thursday by Gov. Pat Quinn and hailed by Chicago authorities as a unique tool for fighting street crime.

“The statute sets a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of 10 years behind bars for unlawful use of a weapon by a gang member; under previous law such an offense was punishable by probation. Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, who pushed for the measure, said she believes it is the first state law to include gang membership as an element of the criminal offense.”

While normal law abiding citizens in Chicago have had to jump through hoops to obtain a gun permit, gang members only faced probation for violating the law. Does that make any sense, even in Chicago?

L.A. Times Offered Biased Editorial

Why cite facts if you’re going to just use the ones that support your argument and ignore everything else? Case in point, The Los Angeles Times editorial titled “Crazy about guns.” Seriously, this editorial actually has “crazy” in the title.

It uses gun crime, including the recently shooting of four police officers as to why guns are bad? What about all the times when bad men break into homes and the homeowners defend themselves? Not mentioned. The article even pulls no punches and calls out the “gun show loophole.” Of course, because the liberal media doesn’t really care about facts, at least when guns are at issue. That would just be… well, crazy.

Raymond W. Kelly Offers Editorial for NY Daily News – We Respond

We respect what men like New York City Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly have done to make our cities safe. There is no doubt that Mr. Kelly is a good man, but we still think some of this tactics go a bit far. While his editorial for The New York Daily News mostly addresses illegal guns, his message puts too much blame on straw purchases and the so-called “gun show loophole,” without putting the real blame on the scum who want the guns in the first place. Maybe if we were tougher on the real criminals, than law abiding citizens wouldn’t have to jump through stupid hoops to buy firearms. While the city worries about loopholes, it makes it so difficult for collectors, hunters and sports shooters. In the end New York City will be a land where only the police and criminals have guns. That’s a city many wouldn’t want to live in.

Los Angeles Daily News Weighs in on Ammo Cap

An important debate is unfolding in California, and fortunately not all in the mainstream media are blindly praising the latest major setback for law abiding citizens. The Los Angeles Daily News is asking readers to weigh in on the issue of the recently signed into law legislation that would limit the amount of ammo one can buy per month. Not that criminals would ever abide by such a law. Please join the debate.

British Police Arrest Seven In Gun Crackdown

European countries like Britain have some of the toughest anti-firearms laws in the world. And yet criminals still find a way of getting illegal weapons to further their criminal enterprises. Today, Merseyside Police raided a series of addresses in Huyton as part of an ongoing crackdown on gun crime. Huyton is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, in Merseyside, England. Gun Ownership on the Rise – Is this News?

According to a recent gun sales are increasing and it is because of concerns over possible future legislation. At this point we wouldn’t be surprised if Seattle Times and Seattlepi.com reports that oil prices have eased and home sales were sluggish in the first quarter of this year. Talk about being late on a story, but that didn’t stop this Seattle-based Web site from doing a bit of fear mongering:

“Gun owners worried that a bad economy could lead to increased violence and suspicious that new stricter gun laws are on the horizon are rushing in record numbers to get concealed weapons permits.”

However, what is worrisome is that this is a wire story that is in fact from The Associated Press. So the question is did the Seattle Times run a very old and dated piece, or does the AP hate guns so much that it will rehash a story while the news is slow? You be the judge.
