CSM Offers Anti-Gun Bias in Story About Fort Hood Shooter

The Christian Science Monitor, a news organization that we watch regularly for their anti-gun bias, pulls no punches in an article titled: “Ft. Hood rampage raises questions about gun control.”

The article suggests that the shooter at Fort Hood earlier this month could have been stopped if the FBI had more time to do firearms background checks:

“Critics say it’s because pro-gun lawmakers, spring-loaded to oppose stronger gun control of any kind, have stymied efforts to give the FBI greater authority to look for gun purchasers who might potentially be terrorists or otherwise prone to attack innocent victims.”

What about the fact that he was regularly e-mailing known terrorist? What about the fact that soldiers on a military base don’t carry firearms? What about the fact that the shooter essentially spelled out what he was going to do? Solid reporting from the CSM yet again.

AG Calls for Gun Control!

The Law Enforcement Alliance of America has issued a press release outling some concerns regarding statements made by Attorney General Eric Holder.

“The President of the United States asked that politicians not use the Ft. Hood attack to engage in ‘political theater.’ It appears those committed to attacking gun owners and the Second Amendment simply can’t help themselves and are engaged in blaming guns and gun owners on the heels of this terrorist attack. Sadly it looks like ‘politics as usual,’” said LEAA’s spokesperson, Ted Deeds.

According to the LEAA:

  • Holder wants a national, permanent gun registration system administered by law enforcement. A registration of honest citizens that have cleared the federal background check for gun purchases with those records permanently retained by and shared among law enforcement.
  • Holder wants new federal authority to prohibit any person on the federal watch list (reported to be 400,000 names) from buying guns and supports confiscating guns from those on the list who possess them.

Let us hope that firearm owners learn the truth about what the Attorney General seeks to do to overturn the Second Amendment.

KansasCity.com Letter Begs Response

In an open letter to KansasCity.com, a reader wrote:

“The U.S. Army knows what the National Rifle Association and a majority of our state and federal legislators don’t: that keeping guns out of the hands of people makes for a safer community”

Seriously? How did keeping other soldiers from legally carrying guns keep them safer? Wasn’t this a crime that happened because one man broke the law and others were unable to defend themselves? The author of this letter asks, “will they ever learn?” The same could be asked of any anti-gun zealot.

Wired Magazine Also Asks “What is a Cop Killer Gun”

This weekend Wired magazine also took time to ask the question: what exactly makes a gun a “cop killer?” Of course no one in the mainstream media has actually taken the time to address this point, and instead just has on background quotes (ala “government official” or “law enforcement expert”) on the point.

Again, this isn’t meant to take away from the tragedy, but the mainstream media is quick to point out that this shooting is a lone incident (as the shooter is Muslim and therefore this is not indicative of all Muslims), but also fails to point out that this shooting is also a lone incident (as in the media doesn’t also point out that this is not indicative of all law abiding gun owners). We’ll just call this typical mainstream media doublespeak.

Fort Hood Shooter’s Gun Labeled “Cop Killer”

Is there a particular reason why ABC News chose to label the gun used by Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the shooter in the recent Fort Hood tragedy, a “cop killer?” While we don’t want to overshadow the gravity of this crime, it is worth noting that much has been made of the fact that Hasan bought this firearm legally, but most news sources are failing to report that he had military training.

A gun alone doesn’t become a “cop killer,” unless it is in the hands of a trained individual. But why should we expect the media to bring that up?
