Dave Work Tells How President Obama Attacked the Second Amendment

Time and time again the media and pretty much every anti-gun zealot suggest that President Obama hasn’t pushed for gun control, or has shown any anti-gun stance. Fortunately our friend Dave Workman compiled just a few examples:

During his first term, President Obama has:

  • Appointed anti-gunners Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court, where they could influence Second Amendment rulings for several years.
  • Appointed liberal anti-gunners to lower federal courts, where most gun rights cases will be decided because the high court is under no obligation to accept every gun case for review. Their rulings could govern gun rights for several decades, because these judicial appointments are for life.
  • Reversed standing U.S. policy on the proposed international Small Arms Trade Treaty.
  • Appointed avowed anti-gunner Eric Holder as attorney general – whose performance was discussed in this column earlier – gave us the Operation Fast and Furious cover-up scandal. Holder will forever be remembered by Northwest shooters as the man who wanted to “brainwash” people against guns, as this column discussed.
  • Let his bureaucrats push through a multiple sales reporting requirement on long guns in four southwest states because of the gun trafficking scandal.
  • Blocked, by executive order, importation of thousands of surplus M1 rifles from Korea. (Remember what Clinton advisor Paul Begala once told a reporter: “Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Kinda cool.”)
  • Attempted to nominate an anti-gun bureaucrat to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

ABC News Finally Covers Fast and Furious

Apparently ABC News can’t continue to pretend that Fast and Furious was just a movie, or that the scandal would drive off into the sunset. Last week the news outlet finally noted it, but not because of the gun walking, but because it is a showdown between Congress and Attorney General Eric Holder:

The undercover, gun-walking operation was called “Fast and Furious.”

Now, some furious congressional investigators want to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for allegedly blocking their efforts to get the facts about the controversial operation — a charge the Justice Department “strongly disputes.”

So why has ABC News been silent on this issue over the past year?

GOA: Rep. Issa Pushing Contempt Order Against Eric Holder

Gun Owners of America:

Rep. Darrell Issa has now finished making his case for holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.

Holder, who once stated he wants to see kids brainwashed into supporting gun control, has presided over a Justice Department that helped smuggle thousands of illegal guns into Mexico, all for the purpose of justifying greater restrictions upon firearms in the U.S.

This Fast & Furious scandal has resulted in the deaths of more than 300 Mexican nationals, plus two U.S. federal agents. Read more

Origins Of Fast And Furious Story Important For Media To Get Right

From our friend David Codrea:

“House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) has distributed a staff briefing paper and draft of the contempt of Congress resolution against Attorney General Eric Holder to Members of the Oversight Committee,” a May 3 press release from Frederick R. Hill Director of Communications for the committee begins.

A copy of the memorandum and draft is posted on the committee website. Highlights include information sharing failures, non-cooperation by the Justice Department, the struggle to get the truth for the family of slain Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, retaliation against whistleblowers, the fueling of violence in Mexico, and “allegations of intentional wrongdoing by Justice officials.” No doubt many outlets will report on this, and the intent of Gun Rights Examiner in its Operation Fast and Furious “gunwalking” coverage has never been to retell stories uncovered by others, but instead to share original sourced findings derived independently or in partnership with Mike Vanderboegh, who blogs at Sipsey Street Irregulars, and who, on December 28, 2010, was the first citizen journalist to report and reach out for confirmation on postings from the CleanUpATF website alleging guns were being walked, and that walked guns were found at the Terry murder scenes.

Media Picks up ATF Story – But Continues to Ignore Fast and Furious

Last week the ATF once again attempted to suggest that American gun shops with the source of guns being used by Mexican cartels, and the story was widely picked up by the mainstream media.

This is a shocking turn of events because much of the media has avoided covering the ATF at all in the past year since the Fast and Furious debacle broke. This is just the latest example of anti-gun bias in the mainstream media.

Much of the coverage of the ATF’s findings that 66 to 68 percent of all firearms recovered and sent for testing were traced back to the United States – a number that still seems vastly high – lack any reporting on the gun walking scandal.

Katie Pavlich ‘Fast And Furious’ Book Acknowledges Efforts By Others

David Codrea:

“In Interviews, Author Doesn’t Credit Reporters Who Broke Fast and Furious,” M. Catherine Evans of American Thinker posted today.

She’s referring to Katie Pavlich’s media tour promoting her new book, “Fast and Furious,” and specifically to work by this correspondent, Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey Street Irregulars, and Seattle Gun Rights Examiner (among his many other journalistic hats) Dave Workman going unacknowledged.

Ms.Pavlich’s reply was posted as a follow-up, where she cites references crediting us for our work.

Because this has been brought to my attention before, and because it appears to be one of contention among our respective readerships, it’s appropriate that it be addressed in this column.
