Rocky Mountain Gun Owners: Anti-Gun Brady Bunch Sherriff Arrested for Dealing Meth

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners:

One of the reasons I am so opposed to the government being involved in your Second Amendment rights is that it takes the power away from you and puts it in their hands.

Arizona Daily Star: “Phony outrage is well-worn shoe”

Is gun control and the phony outrage that comes with it just a “well-worn shoe” in the United States? We seem to think it is, but finally some in the media are taking note of it. This week The Arizona Daily Star offered an editorial noting how the word “Glock” has created outrage.

The paper offered this thought:

“A gun, by any other name, is just a gun. Unless it’s a Glock semi-automatic pistol raffled off by Republicans in Pima County, which just happens to be the same county where Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 19 other people were shot, six of them killed. Then it’s an outrage. Or so we’re supposed to believe. The 24-hour news cycle, the blogosphere and the Twitterverse erupted last week when Huffington Post pointed out that the Pima County Republican Party was raffling off a Glock 23 pistol, saying it’s the same pistol that Jared Lee Loughner used Jan. 8 to shoot Giffords in the head. It’s not the same. Loughner used a Glock 19.”

The paper also noted that Giffords owned a Glock and asks, where is the outrage. But this editorial also tries to suggest that conservatives have false outrage:

“Consider the fake fury by conservatives over the ATF Fast and Furious scandal, an attempted sting operation by federal agents who allowed ‘straw buyers’ to legally purchase thousands of assault rifles from Arizona gun dealers so that the guns could be tracked to Mexican drug cartels. The ATF lost track of many of the guns and one of those guns ended up at the shooting scene where smugglers killed Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. Conservatives say they are outraged about it and are desperately trying to pin the scandal on President Obama. But in the three years prior to Operation Fast and Furious, several newspapers had written investigative stories about Mexican drug cartels smuggling tens of thousands of legally purchased American guns into Mexico.”

We think this outrage is a little different, because it is the facts that are a problem. Yes, we should be outraged if guns are being illegally smuggled into Mexico, but part of the outrage is because the media cited numbers from the ATF – numbers used over and over still to this day by groups such as the Brady Campaign – that suggest more guns are coming from the United States than actually are. This is outrageous.

But maybe there is enough outrage to go around.

Sour Grapes from AP on Obama’s Gun Policy?

This week the Associated Press, via ABC News, offered a story titled “PROMISES, PROMISES: Obama yet to Act on Gun Safety.” This highly biased piece suggested President Obama was completely lax on gun laws.

The article even offered commentary from Brady Campaign President Paul Helmke, thus implying that Obama has done nothing anti-gun. Of course the facts aren’t so cut and dry.

The article failed to note anything about the ATF debacle known as Fast and Furious, nor did it bother to note that Obama himself reportedly said to Sarah Brady, one of the Brady Campaign founders, that gun control is on the agenda, but just “under the radar.”

This shameful article implies that Obama is soft on guns. It doesn’t note the blocked importation of M1 rifles from South Korea, nor does it note that the EPA had listened to a proposal that would ban lead ammunition. And finally it failed to note that Obama appointed two Supreme Court Justices who are each extremely anti-Second Amendment.

Obama is extremely dangerous to our Second Amendment rights, whether AP wants to believe so or not.

NRA Fires Back on Brady Campaign’s Ad Campaign

The NRA has shot back at the Brady Campaign and its efforts to spread fear into the hearts and minds of Americans. The NRA notes:

“The group has coined the term ‘assault clip’ to describe magazines that are capable of holding more than 10 rounds. They are claiming that these ‘assault clips’ lead to more crime and should therefore be banned.”

The NRA also notes a fact that doesn’t make the mainstream media:

“Americans own more semi-automatic rifles than ever before, and more self-defense handguns with standard magazines that hold more than 10 rounds than ever before. Yet despite gun ban groups’ predictions, the nation’s violent crime rate is at a 35-year low.”

Kudos to the NRA for pointing out the facts that media wouldn’t like us to know.

TPMMuckraker: More Wishful Thinking From Media on Gun Control?

In a piece this week for TPMMuckraker, Ryan J. Reilly writes, “Brady Campaign: DOJ Meeting Shows Obama Is ‘Serious’ About Combatting [sic] Gun Violence.” The article offers this thought in the introduction:

“A coalition of pro gun-control groups met with Obama administration officials at the Justice Department Tuesday to discuss ways to prevent gun violence.”

First, the headline seriously suggests Obama is serious about this. We doubt it, and think this is just more wishful thinking on the media’s part. But then we note that to the mainstream media, “gun-control” is the solution to “gun violence.”

But isn’t that usually the case?

Dennis A. Henigan Says NRA in “Carefully Constructed Parallel Universe”

Writing for the Huffington Post, Dennis A. Henigan, Brady Center Vice President,” noted that the NRA is in a “carefully constructed parallel universe.” This serves as the introduction for a piece that tries to suggest that lax gun laws credited the situation that allowed Jared Loughner to commit the mass shooting in Tucson.

So what we think is that Henigan, and other anti-gun zealots, are in fact the ones living in a carefully constructed parallel universe, where guns are the blame for all the problems. The NRA and those of us who respect the law live in the United States of America.

Time Says Obama Silence Not Pleasing

Would most gun owners agree with a recent Time magazine headline? It says: “Why Obama’s Silence on Gun Control Pleases No One.” The article notes that the Brady Campaign gave the president an F on gun control last summer, and then notes that the National Rifle Association won’t give him a nod. The article offers this thought:

“If Obama has disappointed both sides so far, the tragedy in Tucson provides a possible pivot point. Senior White House aides have said the President will address the gun issue sometime soon, though they’ve declined to offer specifics on the timing and format.”

That passage explains why the NRA won’t give him the nod. The NRA, and other gun groups, continue to wait for the shoe to fall. As Senator Obama he was anti-gun, from an anti-gun city in and anti-gun state. That says enough. What is also missing is that the Brady Campaign praised Obama and the State Department last fall when efforts to import M1 rifles from South Korea were halted.

The article goes on to suggest that many members of the NRA do support background checks and common sense laws, which is true. But for the article to suggest that the silence pleases no one is an outright lie. We think many gun owners would prefer Obama’s deafening silence to continue.
