Roger Hedgecock With Darrell Issa BATFE

Conservative talk radio host Roger Hedgecock talks Rep. Darrell Issa about the ATF’s “Fast and Furious.”

Kudos to Mr. Hedgecock for helping spread the news on this story.

Gun Owners of America: Abuse Continues at BATFE Regarding Project GunWalker

From our friends at the Gun Owners of America:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) is entangled in yet another scandal.

The latest controversy involves Project Gunrunner. The BATFE knowingly allowed firearms to get into the hands of Mexican drug gangs, instructing American gun dealers to go ahead with questionable—and even illegal—gun sales. When two of these guns wound up at the crime scene of a murdered Border Patrol agent, at least one U.S. Senator is calling the agency to task.

In addition, Gun Owners of America has written a petition to the Congress, urging that the BATFE be stripped of its jurisdiction over firearms.

The history of this agency is one marred in abuse of its power and the trampling of the rights of Americans. In fact, as far back as 1982, a Senate subcommittee noted that ATF “has trampled upon the Second Amendment by chilling exercise of the right to keep and bear arms by law-abiding citizens.”

Action: Please click here and follow the link to learn more about the recent outrage along the border, and sign a petition that will be delivered straight to your Representative and Senators asking them to rein in this unconstitutional agency.

NFR: BATFE’s ‘Project Gunrunner’ Comes Under Additional Scrutiny

From our good friends at the NRA:

We have previously reported on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ “Project Gunrunner” and its inherent problems.

Established in 2007, this program sought to expand the agency’s firearm tracing operations to address trafficking to Mexico. A CBS News story this week brought more scrutiny and additional questions to bear on the controversial program.

The CBS News story detailed the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. Guns found at the scene of the murder were allegedly obtained by a “gun runner” in Arizona, and then sent to criminals in Mexico. And, according to the story, BATFE was not only aware of the situation, but may have inadvertently facilitated it.

The story details how, in late 2009, BATFE was alerted to suspicious transactions at seven gun shops in the Phoenix area. The story alleges that several gun shops wanted to stop the questionable sales, but BATFE encouraged them to continue. Read more

Gun Owners of America Activists Win Three Key Battles in Congress

From our Friends at Gun Owners of America:

GOA recently warned you that anti-gun Democrats might attempt to attach gun control restrictions on the bill to reauthorize funding the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).

These proposals included a ban on high capacity magazines, restrictions that would end gun shows and, potentially, stripping millions of gun owners of their rights by placing them on “watch lists” without any due process of law.

At this point, it appears that your efforts to counter these disastrous proposals with GOA-backed initiatives have backed the gun grabbers into a corner, and we are optimistic that their plans are stymied for now. Read more

Grass Roots North Carolina for Firearms Education Explains the 90 Percent

The 90 percent lie has been one that we at FirearmsTruth.com have worked to debunk. We’re not the only ones. Our friends at Grass Roots North Carolina for Firearms Education offer their take on what the 90 percent means:

Back in the Summer President Barrack Obama met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

At that meeting President Obama agreed to help Calderon register your firearms. The reasoning for this move is the ludicrous claim that 90% of firearms used by Mexican drug lords come from the United States. Read more

Gun Owners of America: Feds Seek to Implement Unconstitutional Power & Gun Grab

The Obama administration just can’t stop blaming the Second Amendment for violence perpetrated by Mexican drug cartels.

In the latest brazen attempt to circumvent the Constitution, Obama and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) are seeking to implement rules that will subject American gun dealers to even more onerous paperwork requirements.

A new proposed rule will, for the first time, establish the precedent that licensed firearms dealers will be required (by administrative fiat) to report to the government the sale of two or more semi-automatic rifles that are .22 caliber or greater, can accept a detachable magazine, and are purchased by the same person within five business days. NRA: Buying More than One Shotgun the DOJ & BATF Want to Know

The National Rifle Association, via our friends at Ammoland, offered a distributing glimpse of the future:

A draft report prepared by the Justice Department Inspector General had called into question the BATFE’s mega-million-dollar Project Gunrunner program.

Established in 2007, this program sought to expand the agency’s firearm tracing operation, relative to the still uncertain amount of smuggling of firearms from the United States to Mexico. This week, the report appeared in final form.

Like the draft, the final report notes that despite Project Gunrunner’s lavish funding, the program suffers because the BATFE fails to coordinate with its own people, with those of the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, and with Mexican officials. Christian Science Monitor Continues to Cite 90 Percent Number

Is it possible that some in the media just like a fact so much that they’ll continue to report on it, despite the “fact” that it isn’t even true? The latest example comes from The Christian Science Monitor, which notes the number of gun shops along “the border” with Mexico, but worse the outlet continues to spew that notorious 90 percent number, long after it has been disproved.

“The cartels hire people without criminal records to buy a handful of weapons at a time, from licensed dealers – there are 6,600 along the border alone – or private individuals at gun shows, and then drive them across the border. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and Explosives estimates that 90 percent of the traced firearmss [sic] recovered in Mexico originated in the US.”

First, what exactly is meant by along the border? It isn’t as if there are gun shops with signs that say, “last gun shop before you leave the U.S.A.” No, these just happen to be privately owned shops located in towns 100 or so miles within the border. When you factor in that there many reasonably sized cities near the border with Mexico, it is easy to understand that there are going to be gun shops. Should these businesses close because they happen to be too close to Mexico?

But worse, how can the CSM cite a number that even BATFE doesn’t support anymore. There has never been proof of this number, and on the contrary it has been essentially disproved, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping the mainstream media from quoting this figure.
