The New Mexico Independent Debates Issue of Guns at Town Hall Rallies
V.B. Price is just the latest of authors of editorials to jump to conclusions. Writing for The New Mexico Independent, he says:
“If loyal members of the NRA carry loaded guns into public political meetings and town halls, should loyal members of the ACLU carry loaded guns to the same gatherings?”
First, he immediately implies that those bringing firearms are members of the NRA, but this has never been proven. Second, he claims these are “loaded guns,” a claim made by many in the mainstream media. Maybe someone should ask if these guns are in fact “loaded.” Next he makes this claim:
“Gun carrying in any public setting is a provocation.”
Is that true? As we’ve pointed out previously, no one has actually opened fire. And while we are Firearmsturth.com don’t think people should bring firearms to town hall meetings, clearly the fact is there that responsible people can carry guns and no one gets shot.
Huffington Post Mourns Death of Ted Kennedy
Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, wasted no time to use the death of the so-called “Lion of the Senate” Ted Kennedy to write an anti-gun piece. While Teddy Kennedy probably wasn’t a fan of guns, he wasn’t exactly the most outspoken anti-gun zealot, so Helmke’s editorial for the Huffington Post is just another example of fear mongering by this true anti-gun zealot. Way to go Paul, keep up the good work.
Christian Science Monitor Now Tracks Guns
This week The Christian Science Monitor produced a rather cryptic piece that looks at “Gun stores and the ‘Obama bullet bubble’,” and honestly the piece is insulting to say the least. It tries to point out that in areas where President Obama had the least support is where gun ownership is high.
Of course the mainstream media tries to portray this as a case of gun nutters building caches of firearms because they don’t like the man in the White House. Have they just considered that rather than those who don’t like Obama buying guns, it could be those that do like President Obama are just anti-gun?
Weapon Used in Double Killings in California was a Stolen Police Handgun
The mainstream media, along with many anti-firearms zealots continue to claim that most illegal guns were once legally bought and sold. What continues to go mostly unreported is that a large percentage of illegal firearms used by criminals were stolen.
Earlier this summer we reported about the stolen sub-machinegun in Florida, and now KABC is reporting that in California there is a possibility that a murder weapon maybe a handgun stolen from a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy.
So maybe the question shouldn’t be who guards the guards, but rather who guards the guard’s guns.
TPM Writer Misses Mark on Gun Owners
In an editorial for TPM Café writer Leonard Zeskind suggests that gun shows have transformed from a regular event that was about hunting and collectibles, into something aimed (no pun intended) at recruiting a white nationalist movement. He states this by noting:
“A few collectors remain, who display antique weapons in the same way as their cousins might collect stamps, particularly at the smaller weekend events. Nevertheless, as anyone who has been around these shows long enough to remember the time when mahogany exhibits of Civil War muskets were the rule and not the exception.” Read more
Not the First Time Guns Were at Rallies
The Chicago Tribune reminded readers that the recent wave of gun-toting citizens at various political rallies isn’t new. The paper explains in this passage:
“In 1967, for example, about 30 members of a new organization called the Black Panther Party marched with rifles and shotguns into the California State Assembly in Sacramento to protest a proposed ban on carrying weapons in public. Yes, children, the ’60s were not only about Woodstock.” Read more
Gun Ownership on the Rise – Is this News?
According to a recent gun sales are increasing and it is because of concerns over possible future legislation. At this point we wouldn’t be surprised if Seattle Times and Seattlepi.com reports that oil prices have eased and home sales were sluggish in the first quarter of this year. Talk about being late on a story, but that didn’t stop this Seattle-based Web site from doing a bit of fear mongering:
“Gun owners worried that a bad economy could lead to increased violence and suspicious that new stricter gun laws are on the horizon are rushing in record numbers to get concealed weapons permits.”
However, what is worrisome is that this is a wire story that is in fact from The Associated Press. So the question is did the Seattle Times run a very old and dated piece, or does the AP hate guns so much that it will rehash a story while the news is slow? You be the judge.
Arthur Frommer Fromming Mad
KPHO in Phoenix is reporting that travel guru Arthur Frommer has made it clear that he won’t travel to Arizona because guns have been carried in the open. Shouldn’t a travel expert know that firearms have been a part of this state’s heritage for decades?
According to KPHO, Frommer wrote on his Web site:
“I will not personally travel in a state where civilians carry loaded weapons onto the sidewalks and as a means of political protest.”
Well, how many firearms owner think we should boycott Mr. Frommer’s travel site and publications?
What if 1,000 People Brought Guns to Obama Rally?
Judge H. Lee Sarokin asked that question in a Huffington Post article. I guess the question is why is this problem, IF (and I do stress IF) these people are legally carrying the guns? In any given year thousands of men and women head to the woods to hunt at the same time, and every weekend there are thousands of guns at guns shows, and thousands of guns at shooting events and competitions. MSNBC Labels Those Carrying Guns to Town Hall Meetings Racists
MSNBC is one of the worst offenders when it comes to targeting the issue of gun control, but it went so far as to label those carrying guns to the town hall meetings and other events where President Obama is speaking as racists.
Of course NewsBusters.org is one of just a few watchdog groups that noted that while MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer noted that it was “white people with guns,” the person in the video is… black.
