Was History Destroyed in Georgia?

When a historic bridge comes down it is often marked by ceremony. Old buildings are routinely preserved and even antique cars are collected with owners being given special license plates. So why do firearms that potentially have historical significance not get the same treatment?

Case in point, in Albany, Georgia some recently seized firearms were put to the saw and destroyed by the sheriff’s department. In fairness, most of these stolen guns were probably low end or common. According to WALB News10:

“Usually once a year Sheriff’s Investigators destroy the firearms that have been seized through the courts, or by all law enforcement in Dougherty County. They have been concerned about the number of stolen guns on Albany streets, and know these weapons will never be used by criminals again.”

We just can’t help wonder whether anything unique is lost forever. This is truly the dark side of this “good deed.”

London Police Now Carrying Guns, But US Mainstream Media Silent

The mainstream media in the United States loves to report how gun laws are tougher in the U.K., and how that means there is less crime. So maybe the U.S. MSM can explain why the news media in the U.K. is all over the story on how the police are now carrying guns – including machine guns – in parts of London because of rising crime? Apparently the gun laws aren’t working. Read more

Canadian Move Could Spell Trouble for American Gun Owners

This week The Globe and Mail of Toronto reported that police in the Canadian city have seized more than 400 firearms from what the paper calls “law-adiging owners.” The repoted reason was that the licenese had been expired or revoked.

Of course this isn’t being reported much in the United States, but it is worrisome omen for American firearms owners, as it is further proof that licenses could be revoked and guns seized by the police. This is a move that Firearmstruth.com will be watching very closely in the weeks and months to come.

Missouri Man Shoots Self in Head While Giving “Safety Demonstration.”

If you were going to teach someone about driving safety would you jump in your car, drive 60 miles per hour, cross the center line and cause a head on collision to demonstrate the effectiveness of your vehicle’s airbargs? Mostly likely not but perhaps Mr James Looney would. Last Friday, with the best of intentions, the Missouri man wanted to teach his girl friend about the basics of firearms safety before taking her to a local shooting range. Looney’s problem was that his teaching methodology ran directly contrary with all the rules of safe firearm handling. Two basic tenants of firearms safety is treat all weapons as if they are loaded and never point a firearm at anything you don’t intend to destroy. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, to insure a demonstration filled with impressive drama and maximum impact Looney apparently placed a loaded weapon to his head and pulled the trigger. Can you say “poor judgement?” While media reports don’t specify exactly what occurred, one can surmise that Looney either didn’t engage the safety correctly or failed to engage it at all because when he pulled the trigger he fired a round directly into the side of his head. He died the next day. Putting a handgun, loaded or not to one’s head is foolish, dangerous and incredibly stupid. Anti-gun advocates will point to Mr. Looney’s death as another reason why guns are dangerous and should be controlled or even banned. The fact is Mr. Looney made the incredibly stupid decision to place a loaded firearm to his head and pull the trigger. The fact is safety goes hand in hand with common sense and the application of common sense simply can’t be legislated.

ACORN: Using Federal Dollars to Fund Gun Control?

As more and more information becomes available about the shady operations of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now or ACORN, it should come as no surprise that people are taking a harder look at past allegations of misconduct by the group. One such issue that is gaining attention is ACORN’s obvious disdain for the second amendment of the U.S. Constitution. In 2008, ACORN quietly backed anti-gun types in New Jersey in an unsuccessful attempt to to further regulate the purchase of handguns by limiting purchases to one per month. How did the organization fund that failed effort? With millions of dollars in government funding, it’s a good bet that some of that anti-gun campaign is funded by tax-payer dollars. That’s a no-no. This is the same ACORN that was slated to received over seven billion dollars in stimulus money courtesy of the Obama administration. The arrogance, bias and incontrovertible unlawful activities this group is involved in make ACORN an organization that simply can’t be trusted. From offering to help prostitutes conceal illegal brothels of minor sex-slaves illegally smuggled into the United States, to surreptitiously trying to poison the legislative process in New Jersey, this “organization” simply reeks of institutional corruption, they clearly have a political agenda that many would argue is divisive to America.

Orwellian Newspeak Targets Firearms Ownership

The bumper sticker slogan, “Gun Control isn’t about guns it’s about Control” is a cleaver way of summing up how freedom loving Americans feel about their 2nd Amendment Right. The recent Supreme Court case, DC v Heller, upheld firearm ownership and the exercise thereof on federal property. After this holding by The Court, control freaks have resorted to a form of Newspeak that has been creeping into legislation and news stories. Read more

Arts Demonstrate Firearms Importance In American Culture

Legal firearms ownership is as important to American culture as baseball, apple pie and jazz. We are unique in the world as a country that celebrates the rugged individual over the group-think of social groups. Our Constitution has specific safeguards to protect the individual from the tyranny of the majority, which is rife in many European countries that that have draconian firearms laws. If individuals are unable to protect themselves from gun violence they have no choice but to morph with the group in the hope of finding safety. Read more

Officer Killed Defending An Estranged Wife

North St. Paul police officer Richard Crittenden was shot dead on Labor Day with his own gun during a violent struggle with a man who lunged at his estranged wife and the slain officer with a burning rag. Crittenden pushed the women out of harm’s way but left himself vulnerable. The man, Devon Dockery, was able to wrestle Crittenden’s gun from him and shoot the officer dead. Read more

NJ Star-Ledger Says Fight Not Over, No It Isn’t

The editorial board of the Star-Ledger should tell readers how they real feel, because I mean does this go far enough:

“In our nation’s capital, no bad idea ever seems to die for good. So we can expect the crackpot gun law that was blocked in the U.S. Senate this week to rise again any day now.”

Is it fair for these “journalists” to label the proposed legislation a “crackpot gun law?” In the world of the mainstream media pulling punches against issues like guns would be too fair. And who says they need to be fair? But the paper is right on this point:

“So watch out — we haven’t seen the end of this fight.”

No you haven’t.

Editorial Masked as News at The Christian Science Monitor

If a news outlet has an editorial ideological bent I have no qualms with that entity. But when editorializing creeps into supposed hard news stories I get flustered. In the United States the major news outlets claim they are objective in their news coverage. This is patently untrue when it comes to stories about firearms. The anti-gun positions are so adhesive even an irresistible force gets stuck from time to time.
