Arizona Daily Star: “Phony outrage is well-worn shoe”
Is gun control and the phony outrage that comes with it just a “well-worn shoe” in the United States? We seem to think it is, but finally some in the media are taking note of it. This week The Arizona Daily Star offered an editorial noting how the word “Glock” has created outrage.
The paper offered this thought:
“A gun, by any other name, is just a gun. Unless it’s a Glock semi-automatic pistol raffled off by Republicans in Pima County, which just happens to be the same county where Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 19 other people were shot, six of them killed. Then it’s an outrage. Or so we’re supposed to believe. The 24-hour news cycle, the blogosphere and the Twitterverse erupted last week when Huffington Post pointed out that the Pima County Republican Party was raffling off a Glock 23 pistol, saying it’s the same pistol that Jared Lee Loughner used Jan. 8 to shoot Giffords in the head. It’s not the same. Loughner used a Glock 19.”
The paper also noted that Giffords owned a Glock and asks, where is the outrage. But this editorial also tries to suggest that conservatives have false outrage:
“Consider the fake fury by conservatives over the ATF Fast and Furious scandal, an attempted sting operation by federal agents who allowed ‘straw buyers’ to legally purchase thousands of assault rifles from Arizona gun dealers so that the guns could be tracked to Mexican drug cartels. The ATF lost track of many of the guns and one of those guns ended up at the shooting scene where smugglers killed Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. Conservatives say they are outraged about it and are desperately trying to pin the scandal on President Obama. But in the three years prior to Operation Fast and Furious, several newspapers had written investigative stories about Mexican drug cartels smuggling tens of thousands of legally purchased American guns into Mexico.”
We think this outrage is a little different, because it is the facts that are a problem. Yes, we should be outraged if guns are being illegally smuggled into Mexico, but part of the outrage is because the media cited numbers from the ATF – numbers used over and over still to this day by groups such as the Brady Campaign – that suggest more guns are coming from the United States than actually are. This is outrageous.
But maybe there is enough outrage to go around.
Man Charged for Shooting Grizzly Bear
On Mother’s Day of this year, Jeremy Hill of Porthill Idaho shot and killed an endangered grizzly bear. He was charged with a federal misdemeanor for killing a species protected by the Endangered Species Act. His trial is set for October 4.
Mr. Hill’s children were playing outside when he saw three bears that appeared to be going after his pigs. The pigpen is only 150 feet from the Hill residence. Not knowing where his children were, Hill attempted to scare the bears off by yelling as he called for his children. When the children didn’t respond, Mr. Hill ran into his house and grabbed his daughter Jasmine’s .270 rifle.
Shouting again after his children, there was no response. Mr. Hill then took aim and shot the closest grizzly that was about 40 yards away. The other two bears ran off and Hill shot two more times to finish off the wounded grizzly. Hearing the shots, his children ran inside to safety. Mr. Hill has pleaded not guilty by reason of self-defense and/or the defense of another.
Idaho’s two federal senators and a representative have given their support to Mr. Hill. Residents of Boundary County have raised over $19,000 for his defense fund.
This prosecution exemplifies the times we are living in. Taken to the extreme, an endangered species has more rights than we do. Hopefully a jury of Mr. Hills peers will use their common sense and conclude that the shooting was justified.

The Knox Report: Distortion in the Courts – Judges display little respect for Second Amendment rights.
From the Firearms Coalition
By Jeff Knox
It can be argued that the only personal property specifically protected by the US Constitution is firearms. While the Fourth Amendment promises “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects” and requires a sworn warrant “describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized,” it does specifically allow for such seizure if the “i’s” are properly dotted and the “t’s” correctly crossed. ACT NOW TO PASS CASTLE DOCTRINE & PARKS CARRY
In the shell game characterizing the North Carolina legislative process, a modified HB 650 passed the Senate Judiciary II Committee today and heads for the floor for its Second and Third Readings, quite probably tomorrow. With the legislature likely to recess on Friday, time is short. YOU MUST RESPOND IMMEDIATELY.
In its current version, HB 650 contains Castle Doctrine, parks carry, enhanced concealed handgun reciprocity, improvements to our concealed handgun law, and far more.
Sadly, HB 650 – and your rights – face a threat not from legislators, but from the efforts of an organization ostensibly dedicated to defending the Second Amendment. Below is an open letter to North Carolina gun rights supporters – but equally vital to gun rights supporters everywhere – which explains the problem. Read more

National Association for Gun Rights: Nearly 1 Million American Rifles Banned By A Stroke Of Barack Obama’s Pen
From the National Association for Gun Rights:
In a move unprecedented in American history, the Obama Administration quietly banned the re-importation of nearly one million American made M1 Garand and Carbine rifles.
The M1 Garand, developed in the late 1930’s, carried the United States through World War II seeing action in every major battle. General Patton at the time called the M1 Garand “the greatest battle implement ever devised.”
The rifle is largely credited with giving American soldiers the advantage and securing victory for the allies.
During the Korean War, nearly one million of these rifles were brought to South Korea and left with the South Korean government afterward. Now, South Korea wants to give American gun collectors the chance to get their hands on this unique piece of history. Read more

Since launching in May of 2009 FirearmsTruth has worked to expose, track and report on media bias. We do this with a shoestring budget and with just a handful of dedicated writers.
We’re asking our readers to help send us news tips on media bias. More importantly we’re looking for a few more writers who would like to join our ranks and ensure that we don’t lose our Second Amendment rights!
