Forbes: Inside President Obama’s War on The Fast & Furious Whistleblowers
While much of the mainstream media has either ignored, downplayed or even tried to pass the blame to President Bush for Fast and Furious, this week Forbes offered an op-ed titled “Inside President Obama’s War on The Fast & Furious Whistleblowers,” which basically set the record straight.
Here is a new twist we hadn’t noted:
Senator Grassley then pointed out that the first whistleblower to come forward about Fast and Furious (ATF Agent John Dodson) had recently been attacked by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). According to Senator Grassley, “Someone in the Justice Department leaked a document to the press along with talking points in an attempt to smear [Dodson.]” The letter insinuated that Dodson went rogue and started a gun-walking operation on his own. This was easy to prove false; however, if Republicans hadn’t taken control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2010 election (meaning an opposing political party wouldn’t have had the power to do an investigation) then Dodson would have been left dangling in these political winds, as records giving the complete picture would likely not have been available.
Imagine if the 2010 election had gone differently. Fast and Furious might have been buried and never seen the light of day, or else would have been dismissed as a wild attack from the fringe. Instead, it is just continues to be mostly ignored, downplayed or at worst blamed on Bush.

A Politician Who Lies – Unimaginable!
The Morning Journal of Northern Ohio is reporting this week that The Buckeye Firearms Association is firing back at State Rep. Matt Lundy (D-Elryia), stating that Lundy made promises to the group to get their endorsement.
The paper notes:
“The ads reveal Lundy’s answers to questions about legislation that would change Ohio’s rules for carrying a concealed handgun in restaurants and transporting a gun in a vehicle.
“’He told us in no uncertain terms that he would support our bills,’ said Jim Irvine, chairman of Buckeye Firearms Association. ‘Now that he’s in office, he appears to be working against us. If that’s not lying, I don’t know what is.’”
We’ll be sure to follow this story as it develops.
Grass Roots North Carolina for Firearms Education Says Act Now
Are guns welcome in Johnston County, NC? According to our friends at the Grass Roots North Carolina for Firearms Education, the county could be downright unfriendly for guns.
Johnston County, NC commissioners are considering an ordinance to ban shooting of any kind of projectile within 600 feet of a dwelling. This would include BB and pellet guns.
Upon questioning, county officials admitted that this would even include bows and arrows.
Aren’t you happy that these officials want to protect you from yourselves! Read more
2010 ELECTION UPDATE: A FRESH FACE FOR OREGON
A word from our friends at the Oregon Firearms Federation:
The historic 2010 elections are now mostly behind us. While much of the country voted to restore some fiscal and political sanity, Oregon bravely bucked the trend.
With some notable exceptions, voters chose candidates who promised to end policies of massive government intrusions. In Oregon, Multnomah County Elections workers Portland voters returned John Kitzhaber to the Governor’s mansion.
This was an amazing race. While Chris Dudley held a small lead through most of the campaign, Kitzhaber pulled out a last minute victory, as so often happens when the Multnomah County votes are discovered recorded. Read more
Montana Also Scores Big For Gun Owners
More follow-up from last week’s election from the great state of Montana. Gary Marbut, president of the Montana Shooting Sports Association penned the following letter:
The Montana Shooting Sports Association was active in supporting pro-gun and pro-hunting candidates in the recent elections, especially candidates for the Montana Legislature.
MSSA mailed almost 60,000 informative postcards to registered voters in 17 key legislative districts. The candidates MSSA supported won their elections in 15 of those districts. Our favored candidate lost by 47 votes in one district, and in the last district we helped our guy is so close a recount will be held.
Of course, we had to make some guesses before the election. We knew who the good guys (and gals) were, because of voting records on incumbents and candidate surveys of new candidates.
What we didn’t know is who would win which races and by what margins. We agonized some over what races to select to apply our scarce resources. Frankly, we picked wrong in a few races. A few deserving candidates we supported didn’t actually need our help (it turned out), despite our concern, and won their elections handily by 60%, 70%, even 80% margins.
However, based on past results, we figure we were able to sway at least 5% of the vote in the races we sided. And, there were seven of the 15 winners who won with 55% or less, just a few votes in some cases. So, we definitely put some pro-gun and pro-hunting people into the Legislature for the next session, people who wouldn’t have won seats in the Legislature without our help.
This is important because MSSA will have the most extensive legislative agenda next session that we’ve ever tackled – ever. I know we’re effective. I just hope we’re effective enough to do a good job with this many bills. With a friendly Legislature and your ongoing help, I’m optimistic.
Your help will be critical. Please familiarize yourself with the issues on the MSSA 2011 legislative agenda as expressed in our Legislative Candidate Questionnaire at: www.progunleaders.org/lcq2010/index.html
so you will be prepared to communicate with your legislators about these issues as the need arises when the Legislature convenes in January.
Best wishes,
Gary Marbut, president
