International Museums: Egyptian National Military Museum

Old naval guns grace the entrance to the museum

While Egypt is known for its pyramids and the Sphinx, it is a nation with a rich (and sometimes tragic) military history. It was an ancient power with a large empire, and later was a colony of numerous nations. As a result there is much blood in the sand around Egypt, where Romans fought, Napoleon faced off against the British and were the German Afrika Korp advanced across the desert. Much of this history is preserved at the Egyptian National Military Museum within the Saladin Citadel outside Cairo.  (Click images for a closer view)
