Who Guards the Guards: Tragedy Strikes as Police Officer’s Gun Kills Child

Guns are not toys. This is something we’ve stated time and time again, and since launching this site last spring we’ve also tried to keep a close eye on how the media reports when guns are used stupidly. And while we admire the dedication from law enforcement and praise them for putting their lives on the line each time they report for work, we feel compelled to report when they act stupidly as well.

It gives us no pleasure however to note that just prior to New Year’s Eve, an off-duty policeman’s firearm was responsible for the death of a child. According to news reports, the Louisanna policeman’s three-year-old son picked up a gun from the officer’s car and shot his three-year-old cousin. This is a tragedy beyond words.
