The Houston Chronicle reported this week that a federal jury found a suspended FBI agent guilty of selling guns without a permit, and then lying about it to federal agents. The paper noted:
“John Thomas Shipley has been suspended from his job since last year. On Wednesday, jurors found him guilty of six counts, including importing or manufacturing firearms and dealing firearms without a license. He also was convicted of four counts of causing a firearm dealer to maintain false records and one count of making a false statement.”
In total the paper says that Shipley bought 54 guns via an Internet site, and illegally sold all but three of the weapons. He will be sentenced in July. What is disturbing about this wasn’t reported in The Chronicle, but KTSM further added that at least one gun was used in a Mexican cartel shooting that killed a Mexican army captain.
