UPI Notes U.S. Weapons Fuel Mexican Drug War

The mainstream media has spent a lot of time over the past year noting that American weapons are helping arm the drug cartels in Mexico. A lot of these stories focus on the little guys, those who buy a rifle or pistol in Texas and bring it across the border. Of course many of the numbers and figures involved have been widely debunked. But now comes a piece in UPI that notes how serious this has become:
“U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton again said the U.S. government would increase efforts at stopping the smuggling of weapons — including rocket-launchers and machine guns — from the United States to Mexico, fire power that is used by drug cartels in turf wars and against Mexican authorities.”
Clearly this isn’t about the “little guys” and likely never has been. If the weapons are machine guns and rocket-launchers these aren’t coming from American gun shows, not even the ones in Texas. This is a larger issue and putting law-abiding American (stress on the word American) gun owners in the crosshairs isn’t fair. This also proves that greater efforts will be needed to stop the Mexican cartels.
