University of Colorado Fights to Ban Guns on Campus

The Regents at the University of Colorado are fighting the recent Supreme Court ruling that forces state and local entities to uphold 2nd Amendment Rights. The Regents argue that they get to decide who does what on university property. This sounds good but is clearly contrary to the law.
Any institution that has ties to a state or to the federal government has to follow constitutional law. The very name, University OF Colorado, is a clear tie to the state. I am assuming that the university also gets state money to subsidize tuition and federal grants to conduct research. There are bound to be other ties such as land grants and the hiring of the Regents themselves are state related.
The Supreme Court has also ruled that any private entity that acts like a public municipality has to follow federal law. A university is like a small community. There is university housing, meals are made and served, many have their own police force, and so on and so on.
The Regents should save their money from fighting a legal battle they can’t win. Instead, they should offer reasonable firearms training and a range where students and others can practice safely. The money saved from launching a foolish lawsuit could be used to subsidize ammunition costs for students who use the range.
