San Francisco Chronicle Columnist Defends Gun Shop

In a column for The San Francisco Chronicle, Phil Bronstein compares Bosnia to the Golden Gate town, and notes that the San Francisco’s anti-gun zealots are fighting mad about the reopening of the High Bridge Arms gun shop on Mission Street.

He asks:

“Do we really need to make a high-caliber stink about reopening the only legal firearms sales outlet in the city, even in a nice neighborhood? No. The place has been a gun store for 50 years.”

Bronstein also quotes Ingleside police Capt. Louis Cassanego as saying, “there’s never been a problem.” This column offers some insight on the issue, and shows that support is even coming from the Pink Pistols, a gay gun rights organization, and notes most importantly that in California you can’t legally received ammunition through the mail, and as many people in San Francisco don’t have cars the shop serves an important need.

It is also worth noting, this is currently – at least when it reopens – the only gun shop in San Francisco. But too many anti-gun zealots believe they speak for everyone when they’d like to see no gun shops anywhere.
