New York Times Offers One Sided Piece on Guns Used in Mexico

In reporting about the growing trouble about the violence south, and unfortunately north of the border, The New York Times offered a slightly biased take that took aim at American guns. The story offered no counterpoint on why American gun owners shouldn’t be the next victims caught up in this cross fire. The article included this choice quote:

“‘He (Mexican President Felipe Calderón) should ask members of Congress what they would do if 6,000 Americans were killed’ in drug-related violence ‘by guns that came from Mexico,’ said Robert Pastor, co-director of the Center for North American Studies at American University in Washington. ‘We would say, “You close down those gun shops.”‘”

Actually, we disagree with Mr. Pastor. The president of Mexico shouldn’t ask our Congress anything. For years the American government has tried to stop the flow of drugs and illegal immigrants north of the border with little (if any) assistance from Mexico. So suggesting that Mexico demand America close down our gun shops… outrageous!
