New York City Family Arrested, Media Goes into High Alert

An interesting tale is coming to light in New York’s Brooklyn neighborhood. The police have arrested a man, his wife, their son, and the son’s roommate for having a collection of unlicensed guns. Local news station New York 1 is reporting “police found 10 handguns, two assault rifles, nine shotguns and nine rifles.”

Why these guns were not registered is unknown. But in pure media bias, the news channel added that the following were also found:

“…one sword, one machete, three daggers and one hunting knife.”

Where any kitchen knives found? What about spoons? How about baseball bats? Does it really matter if any of these bladed items were found, because even in the near-police state of New York City, these items are not illegal?

The New York Times weighed in on the subject, with the usual anti-gun slant, getting a quote from a woman who was walking with her family:

“I’m totally against guns. I don’t care if it was a collection or not. There’s kids [sic] everywhere here.”

This is the usual bias you’d also expect in New York. The woman would probably be against a legally owned gun collection as well, and would evoke TV’s Helen Lovejoy of The Simpsons, “won’t somebody please think of the children.”

And finally, The New York Post went all out with the headline “Gun-stash bust near city school.” Talk about sensational. Thomas Siano and family happened to live across the street from a school, but by all accounts they’ve lived there for years without incident! According to the various news sources, the house was raided after police were tipped off. Says one source to the Post:

“I was scared, but definitely glad the problem was solved, because I definitely don’t want to bring up a family with those kind of people next door.”

While clearly the Siano family broke the law, we must ask again why were these people scared? Other sources interviewed said they were a nice family. But notice that the media tries to pluck out some nice juicy quotes to make this a bigger deal than it actually has to be.
