Mainstream Media Finally Picks Up M1 Story, Brady Campaign Notes Concern

After nearly two weeks of silence from the mainstream media, FoxNews.com has noted that the Obama administration has blocked the importation of M1 rifles from South Korea. According to the story from FoxNews, the South Koreans wanted to sell one million M1 rifles to gun collectors in America – but numbers closer to 100,000 had previously been reported in the Korean media.

Not surprisingly, the anti-gun zealots have supported the move to block the importation of the guns. FoxNews.com quoted Dennis Henigan of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence as noting:

“Guns that can take high-capacity magazines are a threat to public safety. Even though they are old, these guns could deliver a great amount of firepower. So I think the Obama administration’s concerns are well-taken.”

Is the Brady Campaign, or Henigan even remotely serious? There are many semi-automatic rifles that are readily available with removable magazines, so what is the issue with these rifles? Likewise, SKS and AK-47 rifles are already imported in great numbers, so we ask why is there a problem with these American-made firearms?

The article from FoxNews further adds that the Clinton administration blocked sales of M1s and other weapons from the Philippines, Turkey and Pakistan in the 1990s, but it fails to note that these were because those guns in question were actually supplied to those nations as part of the Military Assistance Program (MAP). Firearms, as well as other equipment supplied in this way, is still banned for importation back to America. So why is the State Department continuing to note the bogus concerns of the guns falling into wrong hands, especially when other guns are being imported in huge numbers already?

And why is the mainstream media still failing to report the whole story, and more importantly why are the facts not being made clear? We’ll continue to dig into this story.
