Illinois Congressman Calls to Close So-called “Gun Show Loophole”

U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) has supports legislation to close the so-called “Gun Show Loophole” reports WGIL. The news site notes, “Quigley says the ‘guns show loophole’ is a gap in federal law that allows person-to-person sales at gun shows without a background check. Quigley says those weapons can end up in the hands of anyone, including terrorists, felons and the mentally disabled.”

Under the Gun Show Loophole Closing Act of 2009 reports WGIL, background checks would be required at all guns shows in all 50 states. The question we want to ask is who is going to pay for the background checks, and what about non-gun show related person-to-person transactions?

Won’t liberals such as Quigley next ban all “person-to-person” transactions, thus adding to the cost of transactions? Likewise, wouldn’t these same liberals claim later that there is an increase in so-called “straw purchases?” In other words, is Quigley really looking to close this loophole, or just the loophole that allows for ownership of guns?
