Chicago Tribune Editorial Says Handguns Don’t Belong in the Home

We know that editorials are opinion pieces, but we still watch these closely to see how far the bias swings when reporting the facts. The Chicago Tribune writes in response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that “Handguns shouldn’t be a household staple.” The paper offers some examples of how guns in the wrong hands can have very bad results, notably incidents of children who “play” with guns. All sorts of statistics were given as well.
However, as with many editorials on the subject, not only are those tales of home invasion where a gun saved a life not included, the very point of the McDonald vs. Chicago case not even mentioned.
Obviously we understand the reasons, as an editorial you want to make your point and completely ignore any pieces of information that don’t work to your argument. The problem is that all sorts of anti-gun zealots are coming out of the woodwork following McDonald vs. Chicago with all sorts of reasons why guns are bad, but none are so much as acknowledging why he took this case to the Supreme Court, so that he wouldn’t be another statistics of violence in the Windy City.
