Brady Center Takes Aim at Obama

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence issued a press release this week criticizing President Obama for failing to name a director to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. The full press release was posted at the progressive news site CommonDreams.org, and it suggests that contrary to its usual rhetoric about “reasonable gun laws,” the Brady Bunch indeed would like to see an outright ban on firearms.
The press release quotes Brady Campaign President Paul Helmke:
“Firearms are flowing into the hands of extremists who say they want to overthrow the government, and into the hands of drug cartel killers who want to destabilize our neighbors to the south. How can we enforce any of the laws on the books, which are already much too weak, when the agency most responsible for that enforcement goes over a year and a half with no leadership?”
Have we really seen evidence that guns are “flowing” to extremists? There is little evidence of this great plot to undermine the government. This vast extremist conspiracy is just media paranoia. The same can be said of the so-called “flow of guns” to our neighbors in the south. And we note that Mr. Helmke hardly says very little about the flow of drugs north of the border, nor anything about the flow of illegals into this country.
But as the Emperor Napoleon once said, “give me allies to fight against.” Because as it seems, right now their fighting against themselves.
