Tuscaloosa News Notes Gun Buyback

Police in Tuscaloosa are hoping that with summer coming soon that criminals will suddenly trade in their guns for gift cards, reports The Tuscaloosa News. Of course we continue to question these events. But this one is even more confusing, as the city is looking for residents to actually fund it:
“Taxpayer money cannot be used for the effort, but residents and business owners in the precinct, which serves Alberta and other communities in eastern Tuscaloosa, have already said they are interested in donating money to finance the program.”
The paper further notes:
“People could bring guns to the station and receive a gift card to a store that doesn’t sell guns or ammunition, such as a grocery store or a shoe store.”
This truly sounds like a gun prohibition. Get the people of the community to pay to get guns off the streets – which may or likely may not happen – and then give a gift card. But at least this way taxpayer money isn’t used.
