Why Most Illegal Guns Aren’t Purchased Legally

The Brownsville Herald ran and interesting story with the headline: “Federal agents crack down on straw purchases.” The article tells how the men were arrested for buying a gun for another individual:
“Two Brownsville men were arrested by federal agents after making firearms purchases for third parties in separate cases, according to court documents.”
And let’s see, the firearms were tracked back:
“Garza became the subject of an investigation when a search of the agency’s database revealed that a .223-caliber assault rifle, seized in Guanajuato, Mexico in July 2008, had been purchased by Garza on Sept. 14, 2006 in Brownsville, the ATF said.”
So, that nonsense that it is easy for a gun to be bought via a straw purchase and used by criminals. Well, clearly it is very easy to be caught doing so. But the media mostly doesn’t report on that much.
