Was History Destroyed in Georgia?

When a historic bridge comes down it is often marked by ceremony. Old buildings are routinely preserved and even antique cars are collected with owners being given special license plates. So why do firearms that potentially have historical significance not get the same treatment?

Case in point, in Albany, Georgia some recently seized firearms were put to the saw and destroyed by the sheriff’s department. In fairness, most of these stolen guns were probably low end or common. According to WALB News10:

“Usually once a year Sheriff’s Investigators destroy the firearms that have been seized through the courts, or by all law enforcement in Dougherty County. They have been concerned about the number of stolen guns on Albany streets, and know these weapons will never be used by criminals again.”

We just can’t help wonder whether anything unique is lost forever. This is truly the dark side of this “good deed.”
