WaPo Editorial Opinion Clearly Not “Smart”

As we’ve pointed many times editorials are not the same as news stories, and while we expect these to be biased, we don’t expect facts to be altered to make the point. In a recent Washington Post piece titled “Target: Illegal guns,” the editorial states:

“MAYORS AGAINST Illegal Guns, a bipartisan coalition of roughly 500 U.S. mayors, has been pushing for smart and sensible law enforcement solutions to reduce the number of illegal guns obtained by criminals or would-be criminals”

What exactly is smart or sensible about the law enforcement solutions? Is it sensible for a mayor in one city to attempt to change laws in another state? And maybe the WaPo thinks it is smart to have a prohibition on a constitutional amendment, which is what some of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns are doing. The fact is that these Mayors really are Mayors Against Guns, because they’re the ones that think they’re smart and believe that no guns means no crimes, someone assuming that criminals won’t find a way to acquire guns anyway. Now that’s not smart or sensible.
