Rap Superstar Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty

One of the country’s top rap entertainer, Lil Wayne, shocked fans today by pleading guilty to illegal gun possession. The superstar faces up to a year in jail for an incident that occurred in 2007 after a concert. New York City police pulled over Lil Wayne’s tour bus shortly after it left the concert, saying they had seen and smelled marijuana smoke emanating from the door when it was parked. When police approached the rapper in his sleeping quarter, he tossed away a bag that contained a handgun.

Earlier this year, New York Giants Plaxico Burress pled guilty to a gun possession charge in a Manhattan court and received 20 months in prison. Burress received a sentence almost twice as long because his firearm accidently went off and hit the football player in the leg.

This is one more example of New York City’s draconian firearms laws. I find the violence in rap lyrics and rap lifestyle pornographic. But the 1st Amendment applies to rappers just as it does to the writers at FirearmsTruth. Any citizen should be able to possess a firearm, especially in their sleeping quarter. For years we have heard that government should stay out of the bedroom. Well, don’t be hypocritical. Let citizens, even rappers, exercise their 2nd Amendment Right while in the bedroom.
