Police in Chicago Make Major Gun and Drug Bust

Where there are criminals there are guns, and drugs. The Chicago Sun Times reports that this recent sting on the city’s west side resulted in a major bust indeed:
“18 guns, 2,000 rounds of ammunition, along with cocaine, marijuana and nearly $35,000 in cash.”
The paper also notes that drug dealers are moving to areas less patrolled by the police
“Investigators believe drug dealers had started moving into the area from Chicago because there was less police pressure and a ready market for illegal drugs — both from prostitutes working in the area and suburban teens who didn’t want to drive into Chicago to buy drugs.”
What is worrisome about this story, and so far unspoken by the media, is that guns are hard to legally own in the city of Chicago, but clearly that isn’t stopping the criminals. So we ask whether the laws should be changed. If drugs and crime are moving to areas with “less police pressure,” shouldn’t the law abiding citizens be given the right to defend themselves if push comes to shove?
