Orange County Jumps on the Buyback Band Wagon

The RecordOnline.com is reporting that Orange County will offer a two month long gun buyback, from December 1, 2009 to January 31, 2010 and at least this one could legitimately be aimed at those with illegal guns, as it applies to anyone with “a gun, licensed, unlicensed, legal or illegal.”
We don’t fully agree with the argument from the Country Executive however that “one less gun on the street is one less potential for a death of a resident.” We do want to see illegal guns off the streets, but we just don’t think these programs actually do the trick.
Nor do we agree with the district attorney who was quoted as stating “One of the major priorities of the burglars is stealing guns, whether it’s handguns, rifles or shotguns.” How does ridding one of guns help anyone, but make it possible for criminals to break in and steal something else? This sort of logic implies that you’re going to be broken into, and thus you should face facts and not have guns for the bad guys to steal! With this logic you shouldn’t have a nice TV, stereo, jewelry or anything else!
