NY Daily News Calls for Gun Crackdown

The New York Daily News offered a suggestion that the NYPD “must keep going after guns” after a recent tragic shooting, where an innocent bystander was shot and killed following a dispute between youths. This is tragic, no doubt about it. But calling for the NYPD to go after guns, is like calling for the NYPD to go after drug dealers, drunk drivers and muggers! Isn’t this already the NYPD’s job?
The problem here is that what the Daily News is once again saying is that all guns are bad. Worse, this editorial even calls for the NYPD to go to lengths that many would NOT agree with, including:
“Must keep up the stop-and-frisks that so outrage civil libertarians. Must confront suspicious-looking passersby. Because that’s the best way to try to save lives.”
The irony here is that many liberals would probably say that violating civil liberties is not the best way to stop crime, or even save lives. Of course those same libertarians might also agree that banning guns would save lives (we disagree). So maybe at least, The NY Daily News is offending all sides on this issue.
