Guns Are So Evil That Politico Doesn’t Even Want Jewelry of Gun in Photo

The New York Daily News reported that City Concilman Bill de Blasio had a family photo touched up because in it his 14-year-old daughter was wearing a gun-shaped pendant. The story, which also circulated throughout the New York blogosphere, isn’t so much the problem. In fact, we applaud The Daily News and The Gothamist, a New York City newspaper that picked up on the story, for reporting on this.
What is interesting is that de Blasio’s official statement is: “Our daughter made a mistake in putting on a necklace that was inappropriate,” and that “she will not be wearing it in the future.”
So we ask deBlasio, what exactly is the big deal? It wasn’t as if she was brandishing a real gun or anything, and while it might seem inappropriate for a gun to be used in such a carefree form of jewelry, this is hardly the most careless thing a 14-year-old could have done. It just sends a message of how scared New York politicians are of all thing guns.
