Fort Hood Shooter’s Gun Labeled “Cop Killer”

Is there a particular reason why ABC News chose to label the gun used by Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the shooter in the recent Fort Hood tragedy, a “cop killer?” While we don’t want to overshadow the gravity of this crime, it is worth noting that much has been made of the fact that Hasan bought this firearm legally, but most news sources are failing to report that he had military training.

 A gun alone doesn’t become a “cop killer,” unless it is in the hands of a trained individual. But why should we expect the media to bring that up?
