Florida Courier: News Story or Press Release

A “news” story on the Florida Courier Web site, from the News Service of Florida, reads pretty much like a press release from the Brady Center. The article even begins as a well-written press release would:
“Florida ranks second in the nation as the source for guns used in crimes outside the state, according to data released Wednesday by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.”
Firearmstruth.com would like to see the press release, just to assure ourselves that there was no plagiarism going on. We believe that the reporters and editors are above such things, but it is getting hard to tell. Worse, this “news” story lacks any counter argument, yet contains the somewhat cryptic passage:
“The National Rifle Association did not immediately return a phone call from the News Service of Florida for comment.”
Exactly what does this mean? The NRA didn’t immediately return a call so the writer and editors punished the organization by not including their comments in the article, OR did it mean that the article was on deadline and since the NRA didn’t return the calls it was too late to wait? Either way, it is interesting that the reporter didn’t try to find another source to counter the claims made by the Brady Center. Solid reporting guys, keep up the good “work.”
