Firing Back: CBS Updates Anti-Gun Story, But Still Fails to See Collector Market

In April TV magazine 60 Minutes ran a piece on the so-called “gun show loopholes,” and this week CBS updated the story – no doubt timed with the recent so-called “concealed weapons legislation” in the Senate.

The story describes an event that would probably sound like nirvana to any Firearmstruth.com reader:

“(Philip Van Cleave, the president of Virginia’s largest gun-rights group) took 60 Minutes on a tour inside a world that’s part arms bazaar, part ‘Antiques Road Show.’ And while the memorabilia may not be to everyone’s liking – when it came to firearms – there was a perfect gun for every taste.”

What is interesting about this description of the event, “part ‘Antiques Road Show,’” is that it sums up the gun collector market very well. This remains a segment of the gun-owning population that is seldom addressed by the mainstream media. As we’ve previously touched upon, gun owners are usually labeled “hunters” by the MSM. Or worse, earning monikers such as nuts, survivalists, etc.

But CBS should have seen first hand that there is a collector’s market for these things. Given that the International Comic Con took place in San Diego this past weekend, which was heavily covered by the mainstream media, which reported that thousands of people came dressed up in costumes and spent a small fortune on comics, videos, and other memorabilia, why can’t the mainstream media see that there is a market for collectible guns?

Of course, there would be those who would ask why someone would collect guns? Clearly it is OK to spend a fortune on comics, cars or baseball cards, but collecting history is a problem. That’s likely because the liberals in the MSM are also so ashamed of our past. They can’t change it, so they can try to ignore it.
