Editorial From The Toledo Blade Presents Facts and Then Completely Ignores Them

Millions of people enjoy a beer after work. A few of those people over indulge and get behind the wheel and kill someone in a drunk driving related accident. So we should make it harder for anyone to buy a beer. Sounds harsh right? But that’s essentially what the editors of The Toledo Blade have  said… if you take out beer and insert guns. In a recent editorial the paper states the facts up front:

“EVERY year, hundreds of thousands of people attend gun shows across the United States. Most buyers and sellers are peaceful, law-abiding citizens who enjoy hunting, shooting, or just collecting firearms.”

The paper then goes on to say that some people don’t follow the rules or the law, and the guns end up in criminal’s hands. First, this isn’t fair reporting, even for an editorial. We simply don’t know if many guns come from gun shows. A smart criminal or a career criminal isn’t going to walk into a gun show and buy a gun. There is a lot of risk in doing so, as most gun shows are frequented by police.

It is a felony, punishable by years in jail, for a convicted felon to even pick up a gun at a show. This is something the mainstream media fails to report on, time and time and time again. Gun shows are not black market arms fairs!

Of course the paper likes to use hard language, stating:

“The NRA would like people to believe that all gun sellers are patriots who follow the law to the letter. That’s not true.”

What isn’t true is that whether it is for an editorial or a news feature, the MSM does a lousy job of reporting the facts, and ignores key points – such as the information I stated above. The truth is that alcoholics may go to bars after work, and maybe some criminals do frequent gun shows. Both should be stopped, but should we close the bars and take away the rights law-abiding citizens in the process?
