Cab Driver Defends Self

A cab driver in Mecklenburg, NC shot and killed an armed robber who posed as a passenger yesterday. The assailant, 17 year old Renaldo Smith wasn’t too creative in his method. He simply called for a cab to pick him up at an apartment complex and got in the car. Once seated, Smith threatened the driver with a gun. The quick thinking cabbie reached for his own gun and shot Smith dead.
Criminal records show that Smith had a previous felony conviction for breaking and entering which should have kept him from possessing a firearm. But guess what, Smith was a criminal and didn’t follow the laws that the rest of us live under. Luckily for the driver, he resides in a city with reasonable gun control laws that allow him to carry for self-protection. Had he been driving in a large city like Chicago or New York, the driver would have been at the mercy of Smith.
The mainstream media would have us believe that guns are the problem. If they had their way, none of us would be able to protect ourselves and others with deadly force. This would put us at the mercy of the criminals who are always going to have access to firearms, no matter what the law is. When is the last time a major news outlet mentioned that Americans use a gun in self defense every thirteen seconds? If I don’t have a right to protect my life all other rights are meaningless.
