NY Times Editorial Discusses “Safety” in Public Housing

Idealism shows its head again in another editorial from The New York Times titled “The Right to Arm Public Housing.” The Old Gray Lady as the paper is known in the Big Apple is no fan of guns, but this editorial seems to suggest that public housing in major cities are safe places, free from criminal activity, this is clear in this statement about changes in firearms laws:

“…a reckless proposal that would allow residents of public housing projects to keep guns in their homes. The measure would endanger projects in major cities that have adopted the common sense precaution of declaring public housing to be no-gun zones.”

Yes, it would be great if public housing were truly “no-gun zones,” but in many places these are unsafe because of gangs, drug dealers and other criminals. Shouldn’t the residents living in public housing have the same constitutional laws to protect themselves?
